Optical design of a modular segmented space telescope

Astronomical Optics: Design, Manufacture, and Test of Space and Ground Systems II, 2019
Space observatories have many advantages over ground-based telescopes. However, constructing and launching large space telescopes remains a significant challenge. A solution to this problem lies in autonomous, in-space assembly. To gain benefits from efficiencies of scale and mass production, a modular telescope assembled in space can be constructed ...

Spherical primary optical telescope (SPOT) segments

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
The spherical primary optical telescope (SPOT) project is an internal research and development program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The goals of the program are to develop a robust and cost effective way to manufacture spherical mirror segments and demonstrate a new wavefront sensing approach for continuous phasing across the segmented ...

Phasing of segments telescopes using the subapertures method

Frontiers in Optics, 2003
We propose an alternative method for the alignment of a big astronomical telescope with a segment primary mirror, using the subaperture method; which calculate the parameters necessary to achieve the alignment of the subapertures of an optic surface. Some numeric simulations are presents to align the segments of a mirror.

Segmented Mirror Telescope model and simulation

2012
The Segmented Mirror Telescope (SMT) housed at the Naval Postgraduate School is a unique, state-of-the-art optical instrument built to explore new technologies needed for future spacebased telescopes. A discrete Fourier transform wavefront reconstruction technique developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is discussed in this thesis as ...
