Ground motion selection for seismic response analysis

2017
This dissertation addresses several fundamental and applied aspects of ground motion selection for seismic response analyses. In particular, the following topics are addressed: the theory and application of ground motion selection for scenario earthquake ruptures; the consideration of causal parameter bounds in ground motion selection; ground motion ...

Seismic response analysis of laterally inhomogeneous ground with emphasis on strains

Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2002
The objective of this paper is to make it clear how strain behaviors are affected by the lateral inhomogeneity of ground based on both theoretical simulation and array observation of earthquake motions. We use a two-dimensional pseudo-spectral method to numerically obtain strain motions as well as acceleration motions.

Seismic Analysis of Ground-Supported Tanks Using the Vertical Response Spectrum

Geotechnical and Structural Engineering Congress 2016, 2016
Vertical ground motions can have a significant impact on the structures vertical response for several types of nonbuilding structures. Tanks and vessels, hanging structures, and horizontal cantilever systems are some examples. The forthcoming American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7-16 code requirements for vertical response spectrum will now ...

Seismic response analysis of intake tower structure under near-fault ground motions with forward-directivity and fling-step effects

, 2020
Forward-directivity and fling-step effects of fault rupture generally cause large amplitude and long-period velocity pulses in near-fault ground motions, which impose severe damages on structures.

Seismic Ground Strain Simulations for Pipeline Response Analysis

1991
The analysis and design of buried pipelines to resist seismic ground motions relies on estimates of the seismic ground strains. It is generally assumed that estimates of the maximum axial strain along the pipeline can be determined from the ratio of the maximum velocity recorded at the site over the velocity of the apparent propagation of the motions ...

Distribution of ground rigidity and ground model for seismic response analysis in Hualian project of large scale seismic test

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1997
Abstract An international joint research program called HLSST is proceeding. HLSST is large-scale seismic test (LSST) to investigate soil-structure interaction (SSI) during large earthquake in the field in Hualien, a high seismic region in Taiwan.
