Seismic inversion by Newtonian machine learning

open access: yesGeophysics, 2020
ABSTRACT We present a wave-equation inversion method that inverts skeletonized seismic data for the subsurface velocity model. The skeletonized representation of the seismic traces consists of the low-rank latent-space variables predicted by a well-trained autoencoder neural network.

Elastic Wave Phase Inversion in the Local-Scale Frequency–Wavenumber Domain with Marine Towed Simultaneous Sources

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Elastic full waveform inversion (EFWI) is a crucial technique for retrieving high-resolution multi-parameter information. However, the lack of low-frequency components in seismic data may induce severe cycle-skipping phenomena in elastic full waveform ...

Practical seismic inversion

open access: yes, 1994
Seismic data contain information regarding the phase and amplitude of reflected events. Variations in amplitude, traveltime, and waveform as a function of offset are controlled by changes in the subsurface elastic properties. Analysis of prestack seismic data provides the opportunity to distinguish between changes in compressional-wave velocity, shear ...

Quantitative and Qualitative Seismic Imaging and Seismic Inversion

open access: yes, 2017
We consider seismic imaging to include seismic inversion. Imaging could use approximate operator or time instead of depth. Processing in time is an important part of seismic imaging as well as processing in depth. We can classify seismic imaging as quantitative versus qualitative methods.

Multiparameter Inversion of Seismic Pre-Stack Amplitude Variation with Angle Based on a New Propagation Matrix Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The classical pre-stack seismic inversion technique uses the Zoeppritz equation and its simplified versions to calculate the PP and PS reflection coefficients at different incidence angles, aiding in inverting the subsurface velocity and density ...

Stochastic inversion method based on compressed sensing frequency division waveform indication prior

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The stochastic inversion method using logging data as conditional data and seismic data as constraint data has a higher vertical resolution than the conventional deterministic inversion method.
