Applicability Analysis of Pre-Stack Inversion in Carbonate Karst Reservoir

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Although pre-stack inversion has been carried out on reservoir prediction, few studies have focused on the application of pre-stack for seismic inversion in fractured-cavity carbonate reservoirs.

Seismic Fragility of Gravity and Semi‐Gravity Retaining Walls and Its Impact on the Functionality Loss of Road Infrastructures

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Retaining walls are key geotechnical components of road infrastructure, whose seismic performance directly affects the resilience of transportation networks. Despite their importance, seismic fragility models for retaining walls available in the literature refer only to specific case studies.

Seismic Inversion

open access: yes, 2017
This book describes the theory and practice of inverting seismic data for the subsurface rock properties of the earth. The primary application is for inverting reflection and/or transmission data from engineering or exploration surveys, but the methods described also can be used for earthquake studies.

Seismic traveltime inversion with quantum annealing

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study demonstrates the application of quantum computing based quantum annealing to seismic traveltime inversion, a critical approach for inverting highly accurate velocity models. The seismic inversion problem is first converted into a Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization problem, which the quantum annealer is specifically designed to solve.

Multiphase Tectonic Process With Slab Dynamics in the Northern East China Sea Shelf Basin

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Megasequence 1 characterised by Palaeocene extension and differential subsidence driven by the rollback of the subducting Izanagi Plate. Megasequence 2 records a kinematic reorganisation of the East Asian margin, transition from a rifting to a compressional regime.

Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy Applied to Reservoir Recognition and Evolution on Marine Carbonatic Ramp—Macaé Group (Albian to Cenomanian) of Campos Basin

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
A classic oil producing interval of the Campos Basin—Macaé Group is revisited through seismic stratigraphic analysis, providing a stratigraphic framework, characteristic depositional and relative time positioning for several complex structural settings.

Estimating the critical angle of top near‐surface layers on the Moon

open access: yesNear Surface Geophysics, EarlyView.
Abstract Near‐surface characterization of the lunar subsurface is essential for future exploration and infrastructure development, particularly for the construction of underground habitats that provide protection against radiation and micrometeorites. However, conventional seismic approaches for estimating subsurface properties typically rely on prior ...

Internal Structure, Kinematics, and Prehistory of Frozen Debris Lobe‐A (FDL‐A), Brooks Range, Alaska

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Frozen Debris Lobe‐A (FDL‐A)—one of hundreds of FDLs in the Brooks Range of northern Alaska—is a slow‐moving landslide in permafrost that has been the subject of research since 2008 due to its close proximity to the Dalton Highway. Here, we synthesize more than a decade's worth of climate and surface measurements of monitored FDLs, and the ...

Prestack seismic facies-controlled joint inversion of reservoir elastic and petrophysical parameters for sweet spot prediction

open access: yesEnergy Exploration & Exploitation, 2017
The elastic and petrophysical parameters of a reservoir can be directly applied to lithology prediction and fluid identification. Existing seismic joint inversion methods for estimating the elastic and petrophysical parameters of a reservoir are ...

Wavefront sensing at a high‐repetition‐rate X‐ray free‐electron laser

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a fast, robust and sensor‐free approach to X‐ray speckle tracking that enables shot‐to‐shot wavefront characterization at high‐repetition‐rate X‐ray free‐electron lasers. Our measurements reveal a hierarchy of wavefront fluctuations indicative of instabilities in the accelerator and beamline optics at the European XFEL.Wavefront ...
