Relative moment tensors and deep Yakutat seismicity [PDF]
SUMMARYWe introduce a new relative moment tensor (MT) inversion method for clusters of nearby earthquakes. The method extends previous work by introducing constraints from S-waves that do not require modal decomposition and by employing principal component analysis to produce robust estimates of excitation.

Matched filtering for the seismic moment tensor
By a process of matched filtering it is possible to deconvolve a small number of acceleration or strain records for the moment rate tensor of a seismic source. Theoretically, one horizontal accelerometer (or strain meter) or two vertical accelerometers is sufficient. Practically, five to ten records can be shown to suffice.

Seismicity monitoring by cluster analysis of moment tensors [PDF]
We suggest a new clustering approach to classify focal mechanisms from large moment tensor catalogues, with the purpose of automatically identify families of earthquakes with similar source geometry, recognize the orientation of most active faults, and detect temporal variations of the rupture processes.

SIMULATION OF BRITTLE COMPONENT PLASTIC STRAINS [PDF]
In this paper we study the nonlocal effects of plastic deformation (shear) flow in the subduction zone of the Kuril-Kamchatka arc based on a statistical model cite APS, constructed according to the catalog of seismic moment tensor cite GCMT for the ...

Estimation of seismic moment tensors using variational inference machine learning [PDF]
Abstract We present an approach for rapidly estimating full moment tensors of earthquakes and their parameter uncertainties based on short time windows of recorded seismic waveform data by considering deep learning of Bayesian Neural Networks (BNNs).

Anomalous stress diffusion in earthquake triggering: Correlation length, time dependence, and directionality [PDF]
It has been recently suggested that moderate and large earthquakes can be triggered by similarly sized events at very long range. Here we study the main characteristics of earthquake triggering by determining its correlation length, time dependence, and ...

Stress-field evolution during the 26 November 2019 Durrës (Albania) earthquake sequence: Co-seismic, early post-seismic, and tectonic-region inversions [PDF]
We resolve the stress field associated with the 26 November 2019 Mw 6.3 Durrës earthquake sequence through three windows: the co-seismic mainshock, the early post-seismic phase (mainshock plus the 36 largest aftershocks recorded between 26 November and 2

On the full-waveform inversion of seismic moment tensors
In this work, we propose a full-waveform technique for the spatial reconstruction and characterization of (micro-) seismic events via joint source location and moment tensor inversion. The approach is formulated in the frequency domain, and it allows for the simultaneous inversion of multiple point-like events.
