TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Case report: Bridging limbic network epilepsy with psychiatric, memory, and sleep comorbidities: case illustrations of reversible psychosis symptoms during continuous, high-frequency ANT-DBS

open access: yesFrontiers in Network Physiology
The network nature of focal epilepsy is exemplified by mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE), characterized by focal seizures originating from the mesial temporal neocortex, amygdala, and hippocampus.

Topographic distribution of seizure patterns in patients with absence epilepsy

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Absence seizures, which are also known as petit mal seizures, are the most common type of seizures in pediatric epilepsy. They appear in several types of epilepsy and are characterized by impaired consciousness and 3-Hz spike-and-slow-wave ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Vitamin D content and prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in patients with epilepsy: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
IntroductionThe prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and vitamin D levels in patients with epilepsy (PWE) were systematically evaluated, and the differences between subgroups were analyzed.MethodWe identified all articles investigating the prevalence of ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Long-term outcomes of surgical treatment for epilepsy in adults with regard to seizures, antiepileptic drug treatment and employment

open access: yes, 2017
There is Class I evidence for short-term efficacy of epilepsy surgery from two randomized controlled studies of temporal lobe resection. Long-term outcome studies are observational.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...
