Interactions of caffeine and nitric oxide on pentylenetetrazole-induced clonic and tonic seizures in mice [PDF]

open access: yesBasic and Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition
Background: Caffeine, a non-selective antagonist of adenosine receptors (ARs), may affect the anticonvulsant properties of adenosine through modulation of the nitric oxide (NO) pathway. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the impact of caffeine ...

Vagus nerve stimulation in 15 children with therapy resistant epilepsy; its impact on cognition, quality of life, behaviour and mood. [Elektronisk resurs]

open access: yes, 2005
PURPOSE: Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a neurophysiologic treatment for patients with refractory epilepsy. There is growing evidence of additional quality of life (QOL) benefits of VNS.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Emergency Care Of Children With Febrile Seizure

open access: yes, 2020
Febrile seizure is the most prevalent neurological event in the childhood population, which can affect 2-5% of children of 3 months and 5 years of age. Although it is a benign seizure with favorable outcome, it is indeed a frightening event to parents ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Insight into the Role of Ferroptosis in Epilepsy

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Neuroscience
Excessively high or synchronized neuronal activity in the brain is the underlying cause of epilepsy, a condition of the central nervous system. Epilepsy is caused mostly by an imbalance in the activity of inhibitory and excitatory neural networks ...

Treatment of epilepsy in multiple sclerosis

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: The prevalence of epilepsy is increased in multiple sclerosis (MS), but information on AED treatment and seizure outcome is scarce. We describe epilepsy characteristics including the use of AEDs and proportion of seizure-free patients at two ...
