Operational features of the Far East forests [PDF]
Forest area of the Far East reaches almost 50 % of the forest area of the Russian Federation. The share of the operational forest fund accounts for about 50 %, the rest are protective, protected, low-density, near-tundra and reserve forests.

Reconciling timber extraction with biodiversity conservation in tropical forests using reduced-impact logging [PDF]
Over 20% of the world's tropical forests have been selectively logged, and large expanses are allocated for future timber extraction. Reduced-impact logging (RIL) is being promoted as best practice forestry that increases sustainability and lowers CO2 ...

Survival of Greater Bird-of-paradise and its habitat after selective logging: A preliminary observation in Papua [PDF]
Selective logging in a timber logging concession could affect certain species, including birds. The impact of selective logging on Greater Bird-of-paradise ( Paradisaea apoda) has never been studied before.

Forest logging detection is important for sustainable forest management. The traditional optical satellite images with visible and near-infrared bands showed the ability to identify intensive timber logging.

Feature selection for log-linear acoustic models [PDF]
Log-linear acoustic models have been shown to be competitive with Gaussian mixture models in speech recognition. Their high training time can be reduced by feature selection. We compare a simple univariate feature selection algorithm with ReliefF - an efficient multivariate algorithm.

Growth Dynamics of Araucaria after Management Interventions in Natural Forest
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of selective logging on the growth dynamics of Araucaria angustifolia in a natural forest of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil.

Selective logging in tropical forests decreases the robustness of liana-tree interaction networks to the loss of host tree species. [PDF]
Selective logging is one of the major drivers of tropical forest degradation, causing important shifts in species composition. Whether such changes modify interactions between species and the networks in which they are embedded remain fundamental ...

Optimal parallel selection has complexity O(Log Log N)
It is shown that in the deterministic comparison model for parallel computation, \(p=n\) processors can select the k-th smallest item from a set of n numbers in O(log log n) parallel time. With this result all comprison tasks (selection, merging, sorting) now have upper and lower bounds of the same order in both random and deterministic models.
