Material‐Encoded Synchronization of Immunogenic Cell Death With Adenosine A2A Receptor Blockade Reprograms the Tumor Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bismuth–copper diselenide–based nanoplatform (BSCS@PHY) coordinates immunogenic cell death with local A2A receptor blockade in 4T1 tumors. Thermally triggered shell melting exposes catalytic surfaces for glutathione depletion and chemodynamic ROS generation, while co‐delivering an A2AR antagonist and yeast‐wall adjuvant to enhance dendritic‐cell ...

Kaempferol Attenuates Spaceflight‐Associated Knee Cartilage Degradation by Targeting NOX4‐Mediated Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We have shown that both simulated and actual spaceflight contribute to cartilage degradation in the knees of mice. Using RNA sequencing and bioenergetic profiling, we identified NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4) as a key factor driving these changes. Additionally, we found that kaempferol, a naturally occurring flavonoid that binds directly to NOX4, reduces ...

RPLP2 Mediates the Beneficial Effects of Exercise on Stress Resistance Through Muscle–Brain Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel exercise‐inducible myokine acidic ribosomal protein P2 (RPLP2), initially identified from human trials, is presented here, whose circulating levels negatively correlate with clinical anxiety severity. Muscle‐derived RPLP2 enhances hippocampal ribosomal assembly and adult neurogenesis to rescue stress‐induced anxiety deficits.

Biotransformation of Selenium by Lactic Acid Bacteria: Formation of Seleno-Nanoparticles and Seleno-Amino Acids

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient for the majority of living organisms, and it has been identified as selenocysteine in the active site of several selenoproteins such as glutathione peroxidase, thioredoxin reductase, and deiodinases.

The physiology and evolution of microbial selenium metabolism

open access: yesMetallomics, 2021
Abstract Selenium is an essential trace element whose compounds are widely metabolized by organisms from all three domains of life. Moreover, phylogenetic evidence indicates that selenium species, along with iron, molybdenum, tungsten, and nickel, were metabolized by the last universal common ancestor of all cellular lineages, primarily ...

Spatially Organized Human Ovarian Spheroids Instruct Endometrial Morphogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A spatially organized human follicle‐like spheroid (SPHEGaT) composed of granulosa cells (GCs) and stromal‐derived theca‐like cells (TLCs) establishes sustained steroidogenesis in vitro. When co‐cultured with human endometrial organoids (EMOs), estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) exchange induces secretory/progesterone‐responsive differentiation ...

The influence of a selenium-chromium-lipid complex obtained from Chlorella vulgaris on the energy metabolism in rats with experimental diabetes

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems, 2017
One of the leading roles in treating diabetes mellitus belongs to chrome ions therapy (III), especially in the complex with selenium (IV). Currently selenium is obtained from unicellular algae, which contain biologically active substances and which are ...

A Glucose Metabolism‐Modulatory Nanobiohybrid Vaccine Platform Promotes Anti‐Tumor Immunity by Orchestrating Autophagy‐Dependent Cross‐Presentation and H2S‐Enhanced NLRP3 Inflammasome Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanobiohybrid vaccine was designed by constructing a hydrogen‐bonded organic framework coencapsulated with glucose oxidase (GOx) and tumor antigens. This nanobiohybrid vaccine executed a GOx‐catalyzed enzyme reaction that disrupted glucose metabolism and induced redox imbalance in dendritic cells, leading to autophagy‐dependent antigen cross ...

Oral Delivery Systems for Food‐Derived Bioactive Peptides: Enhancing Stability, Bioavailability, and Health Benefits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Advanced delivery systems—including nanoparticles, nanoemulsions, liposomes, and hydrogels—protect food‐derived bioactive peptides from gastrointestinal degradation and bitterness. These systems enable pH‐responsive release, enhance intestinal absorption, and improve therapeutic efficacy against oxidative stress, metabolic disorders, cancer, and ...

Selenium and selenoproteins in prostanoid metabolism and immunity [PDF]

open access: yesCritical Reviews in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2019
Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element that functions in the form of the 21st amino acid, selenocysteine (Sec) in a defined set of proteins. Se deficiency is associated with pathological conditions in humans and animals, where incorporation of Sec into selenoproteins is reduced along with their expression and catalytic activity. Supplementation of
