Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Self-Assembly of Giant Peptide Nanobelts [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2009
Many alkylated peptide amphiphiles have been reported to self-assemble into cylindrical nanofibers with diameters on the order of a few nanometers and micrometer scale lengths; these nanostructures can be highly bioactive and are of great interest in many biomedical applications.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Chemical Reactions Directed Peptide Self-Assembly [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2015
Fabrication of self-assembled nanostructures is one of the important aspects in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The study of self-assembled soft materials remains an area of interest due to their potential applications in biomedicine. The versatile properties of soft materials can be tuned using a bottom up approach of small molecules.

Innate Immune Reprogramming Mediated by Endogenous Retroelement Dysregulation Drives Multiple Sclerosis Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic reprogramming in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and downstream myeloid cells, mediated by H3.3 downregulation and endogenous retroelement (ERE) overexpression, contributes to the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). ABSTRACT Background Skewed myelopoiesis in the bone marrow has been identified as a key driver of multiple ...

Role of Prednisone and 25‐Hydroxyvitamin D on Bone Mineral Density and Osteoporosis in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We evaluated the role of 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D), prednisone, and other risk factors for bone mineral density (BMD) loss and osteoporosis in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods We calculated the association between 25(OH)D levels and other potential risk factors and BMD measures (spine T scores) and osteoporosis (defined as a T ...
