The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Collapse Capacity Analysis of Self-centering Precast Shear Walls Based on IDA

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2018
Self-centering precast concrete shear walls were constructed by using post-tensioning strands to assemble prefabricated wall panels along vertical direction.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

A Comparative Study of the Seismic Performance of Self-Centering CRBFs and BRBF Systems

open access: yesIranian Journal of Science and Technology, Transactions of Civil Engineering
Abstract The current seismic design philosophy of building structures relies on the inelastic response of the main structural elements as the principal source for dissipating the seismic energy. The product of this philosophy is considerable levels of residual drifts that could make building structures look unsafe to their occupants.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Tri-axial Self-centering Reinforced Concrete Frame and Its Quasi-static Test

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2018
Self-centering reinforced concrete frame is a new type of earthquake resilient structure.Comparing to conventional RC structures,self-centering structure is known for its minimal damage under earthquakes and little residual deformation after earthquakes ...

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Resilient self-centering viscous-based bracing with SMA and friction springs: Multi-objective control of displacement and acceleration – an analytical study

open access: yesResilient Cities and Structures
Self-Centering Piston-Based Braced Frames (SC-PBBFs) are designed to curtail structural damage under severe ground motions. The self-centering mechanism in this bracing mitigates structural damage during an earthquake, thereby reducing post-earthquake ...

A Simplified Model for Dynamic Response Analysis of Framed Self-Centering Wall Structures under Seismic Excitations

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2019
This paper presents a simplified model for dynamic response analysis of the framed self-centering wall (FSCW) structure under seismic excitations. In the analysis model, the frame is equivalent as a single-degree-of-freedom system and collaborates with ...
