Incompatible Self-Compatibility

Science, 2010
Macroevolutionary processes driving species differences in diversification rates are important in explaining the variation we see in nature, but the extent of this process and how much the traits within a single species can drive changes in the diversification rate are unknown. Stigma factors regulating self-compatible pollination

Frontiers in Biology, 2010
Pollination is one of the most important steps during fertilization and sexual reproduction in plants, and numerous cell-cell interaction events occur between the pistil and the pollen grain/tube during this process. The pollen-stigma interaction is a highly selective process which leads to compatible or incompatible pollination.

Self-compatibility in distylousHedyotis salzmannii (Rubiaceae)

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1995
Hedyotis salzmannii (Rubiaceae) is distylous. Experimental pollination revealed that both morphs are self-compatible. However, the thrum morph proved to be more self-compatible. Hand cross-pollination between different plants of the same floral form produced less seed-sets per pollination than hand cross-pollination between pin and thrum or thrum and ...

Pseudo-self-compatibility in Centaurea cyanus L

Flora - Morphology, Distribution, Functional Ecology of Plants, 2014
Agricultural intensification has resulted in drastic regression of several arable land-dependent weeds. This decrease, along with reduced pollinator abundance, could lead to population-level extinction of self-incompatible species. Alternatively, it could drive adaptation to self-compatibility through selection on standing genetic variation.

Recurrent selection programs for white clover (Trifolium repens L.) using self-compatible plants. I. Selection of self-compatible plants and inheritance of a self-compatibility factor

Euphytica, 1989
When white clover plants were self-pollinated, 75% of a 143-plant population did not set seed. Plants which did set small numbers of seed probably did so as a result of pseudo-self-compatibility. One highly self-compatible plant was selected from the breeding materials.

Self-compatibility and autogamy in ‘Guara’ almond

Journal of Horticultural Science, 1992
To evaluate self-compatibility and autogamy in ‘Guara’ almond, pollen tube growth and fruit set following hand pollination and fruit set in a caged tree were considered. Pollen tube growth after self- and cross-pollination was similar either at 15 or 20°C. Fruit set after hand pollination was almost identical for both self- and cross-pollination either

Tripterocalyx carneus (Nyctaginaceae) Is Self-Compatible

The Southwestern Naturalist, 2008
Abstract Recent phylogenetic work has demonstrated that the ability of species of the angiosperm family Nyctaginaceae to self-fertilize is evolutionarily labile. However, the potential for further investigation of the evolution of mating systems in the family is limited, because there is no information on reproductive biology for several genera.

Variable self-compatability inNeolloydia intertexta (Cactaceae)

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1985
Self and outcross pollination treatments were applied toNeolloydia intertexta. Two distinct patterns of seed production were found, and are correlated with self-pollinated outcrossed treatments. The outcrossed result resembles the field exposed crop. The untouched controls produce a similar pattern to the actively selfed group.

Compatibility driven self-strengthening during the radical-responsive remolding process of poly-isoprene vitrimers

Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2019
A compatibility-tailoring strategy is employed to fabricate poly-isoprene vitrimers with self-strengthening capabilities during the remolding process.
