Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

A Note on Self Complementary Brittle and Self Complementary Quasi Chordal Graphs [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Computational Mathematics, 2013
In this paper we deal with some classes of self-complementary (sc) perfectly orderable graphs namely sc brittle, sc quasi chordal graphs and propose algorithms for these classes. We obtain some results on these classes and an algorithm is proposed based on these results that recognize these classes.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Bipolar disorder and complementary medicine : current evidence, safety issues, and clinical considerations

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a debilitating syndrome that is often undiagnosed and undertreated. Population surveys show that persons with BD often self-medicate with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) or integrative therapies in spite ...

Determinants of knowledge, attitude and self-efficacy towards complementary feeding among rural mothers: Baseline data of a cluster-randomized control trial in South West Ethiopia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
BackgroundComplementary feeding (CF) is the period when exclusive breastfeeding ends and the introduction of a wide range of foods while breastfeeding should continue until the child is at least 24 months of age.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Looking outside the square : the use of qualitative methods within complementary and alternative medicine - the movement towards rigour

open access: yes, 2013
This paper explores why qualitative research in the field of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is underused and, when used, done so defensively.

Cycles in self-complementary graphs

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B, 1977
AbstractLet G be a self-complementary graph of order p ≥ 8. It is shown that for every integer l, 3 ≤ l ≤ p − 2, G has an l-cycle. Further, if G is hamiltonian, then G is pancyclic.
