The Stature of the Self-Employed and its Premium [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2014
markdownabstract__Abstract__ Taller individuals typically have occupations with higher social status and higher earnings than shorter individuals. Further, entrepreneurship is associated with high social status in numerous countries; hence, entrepreneurs might be taller than wage workers. Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (2002-2010), we

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Fire Monitoring, Analysis and Modelling for Climate Change Mitigation and Improved Fire Management

open access: yesBiodiversidade Brasileira, 2019
Vegetation and peat fires contribute substantially to global emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG). According to latest estimates, net fire emissions amount to about 6% of global fossil fuel GHG emission.

Fatigue behavior of lubricated Ni-Ti endodontic rotary instruments [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2014
The use of Ni-Ti alloys in the practice of endodontic comes from their important properties such as shape memory and superelasticity phenomena, good corrosion resistance and high compatibility with biological tissues.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Endogenous and Exogenous Factors of Farm Households and Their Relation to Farmers’ Feeling of Stress – Empirical Evidence From Austria

open access: yesGerman Journal of Agricultural Economics
The family farm is a unique institution where the farm household balances family members’ needs with farm business demands. Building on the farm household model, this study identifies and characterizes distinct farmer types based on their perceptions of
