Defect clusters and annealing in self-ion-irradiated nickel

Transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffuse scattering have been used to study defect clusters in 4-MeV self-ion-irradiated (total doses of 2.5×1013 and 5.0×1013 ions/cm2) nickel. The distribution of defect clusters as a function of the ion penetration depth was measured directly in the electron microscope using a transverse sectioning technique.

Abstract We investigated the microstructural and hardness changes in austenitic stainless steel after Fe ion irradiation at 400, 300, and 200 °C using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nanoindentation. The size of the Frank loops increased and the density decreased with increasing irradiation temperature.

Annealing studyof self-ion-irradiated gold by proton channeling

Properties of Self-Ion Irradiated Thin Films

Thin films vacuum deposited under simultaneous self-ion irradiation show strong crosslink with the substrate, bulk-like properties with enhanced oriented structure, caused by internal electric microfields during island formation, and a constant concentration of radiation damage mainly of the vacancy type.
