Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

Microstructural Investigation into Premature Failure of Compressor Turbine (CT) Blade Material of High Pressure (HP) PT6A-114A Engine

open access: yesIranian Journal of Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
This paper investigates premature failure of High Pressure (HP) PT6A-114A Compressor Turbine (CT) blades used for short-haul aircraft fleet at 6378 hours, contrary to 10000 hours pre-set by the manufacturer. The CT blades were sectioned both transversely

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

The SEM/EDS analysis of zeolite minerals

open access: yes, 2021
The SEM/EDS analysis is one of the most important methods for characterizing and determining the morphology of minerals. In scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a highly energetic and focused electron beam scans the sample and normally provides an extremely enlarged image of the morphology of the sample, as well as information on its chemical composition

Carbon nanotubes and xerogels as supports of well dispersed Pt catalysts for environmental applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Different types of carbon materials including multi-walled nanotubes (MWNT), carbon xerogels (CX) and activated carbon (AC) were used as supports to prepare platinum catalysts (1% w/w), which were tested in the treatment of aqueous aniline solutions by ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

A Coupled Nanoindentation/SEM-EDS Study on Low Water/Cement Ratio Portland Cement Paste: Evidence for C–S–H/Ca(OH)2 Nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A low water/cement ratio (w/c=0.20) hydrated Portland cement paste was analyzed by grid-indentation coupled with ex situ scanning electron microscope-energy-dispersive X-ray spectra (SEM-EDS) analysis at each indentation point. Because finite element and
