SEM/EDS images from a laser printer

open access: yesScanning, 1989
AbstractA method for producing hardcopy images with a laser printer from scanned video images is presented. The advantages and limitations of this method are compared to the traditional Polaroid technique used for scanning electron microscopy and some methods of creating artificial grey scales using arrays of dots are discussed.

Visualization of the Equilibrium FCC Catalyst Surface by AFM and SEM–EDS [PDF]

open access: yesCatalysis Letters, 2003
The deposition of metal contaminants (e.g., Ni, V, and Fe) from the hydrocarbon feed causes the deactivation of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst used in petroleum refining. It is very important to understand the changes in the morphology and chemical composition on the catalyst surface and how these structural and chemical changes affect the ...

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Characterisation of nanoparticles by means of high-resolution SEM/EDS

open access: yes, 2015
Advances in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) enable the high-resolution imaging of single nanoparticles (NPs) with sizes well below 10 nm. The SEM analysis in transmission mode (T-SEM) of NPs on thin film supports has many benefits when compared to the

Shooting Activities as the Potential Influence on the Environment at the Pokljuka Biathlon Center, Slovenia

open access: yesAtmosphere
Biathlon activities can have negative effects on the environment due to the processes occurring during shooting, as the biathlon ammunition contains significant amounts of Pb, Cu and Sb.

A SEM, EDS and vibrational spectroscopic study of the clay mineral fraipontite [PDF]

open access: yesSpectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2015
The mineral fraipontite has been studied by using a combination of scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive analysis and vibrational spectroscopy (infrared and Raman). Fraipontite is a member of the 1:1 clay minerals of the kaolinite-serpentine group. The mineral contains Zn and Cu and is of formula (Cu,Zn,Al)₃(Si,Al)₂O₅(OH)₄.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...
