Synthesis and characterization of M(II) phosphonates (M = Fe, Co, Zn, Mn) as precursors for PEMFCs electrocatalysts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Metal phosphonates are promising precursors for applications such as proton conductivity [1] and catalysis [2]. Specifically, upon calcination metal polyphosphates are generated that can be used as non-noble metal alternatives [3] to the highly expensive

Effect of the Synthesis Route on the Microstructure and the Dielectric Behavior of CaCu3Ti4O12 Ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) was prepared by a conventional synthesis (CS) and through reaction sintering, in which synthesis and sintering of the material take place in one single step. The microstructure and the dielectric properties of CCTO have been studied by

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.
