SummaryThis work introduces a semi‐analytical formulation for the simulation and modeling of curved structures based on the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). This approach adapts the fundamental idea of the SBFEM concept to scale a boundary to describe a geometry.

A nonlinear, semi-analytical finite element analysis for nearly axisymmetric solids
Computers & Structures, 1983Abstract The presented research is concerned with the development of the theory and accompanying computer program for a semi-analytical finite element analysis of non axisymmetrically loaded, nearly axisymmetric solids. The theoretical basis of the method together with numerical procedures for handling boundary conditions, rigid body motion and the ...

Semi‐analytical finite element procedure for conduction in anisotropic axisymmetric solids
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1974AbstractThrough the use of complex series representations and the properties of adjoint differential operators, a semi‐analytical finite element procedure is developed which can analyse the steady state and transient temperature fields of thermally anisotropic axisymmetric bodies with complete circumferential properties.

Semi Analytical Finite Element Analysis for Ultrasonic Focusing in a Pipe
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003Guided wave focusing has been developed as a promising technique for defect detection in pipeworks, where non‐axisymmetric flexural modes are tuned so that ultrasonic energy can be focused at a target point in a pipe. If a defect is located at the target point, large amplitude reflected waves can be observed.

Semi-analytical finite element analysis of end problems for orthotropic cylinders
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1979Abstract A semi-analytical finite element method has been developed for the solution of general asymmetric elastostatic end problems for orthotropic cylinders by an eigensolution technique. The finite element equations for the semi-infinite cylinder are derived from the potential energy expression assuming that the solution decays exponentially in ...

A semi-analytical finite element method for three-dimensional consolidation analysis
Computers and Geotechnics, 2001Abstract An efficient formulation, based on a semi-analytical finite element method, is described for elasto-plastic analyses of consolidation of an axi-symmetric soil body subjected to three-dimensional loading. Expressing the field quantities in the form of discrete Fourier series results in a set of modal equations that can be solved separately ...

Semi-analytical finite element analysis of elastic waveguides subjected to axial loads
Ultrasonics, 2009Predicting the influence of axial loads on the wave propagation in structures such as rails requires numerical analysis. Conventional three-dimensional finite element analysis has previously been applied to this problem. The process is tedious as it requires that a number of different length models be solved and that the user identify the computed ...

A semi-analytic finite-element analysis of circular plate bending problems
The Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 1980Semi-analytic formulations have previously been used for a number of stressing problems wherein axisymmetric structures have supported non-axisymmetric loads. The approach is here shown to be very useful for circular plates, and to have especial value for design analyses using desk top computers in which the main store is relatively small.

Semi-analytical finite element method for modeling of lamb wave propagation
CEAS Aeronautical Journal, 2013Lamb wave propagation in plates is multi-modal, dispersive and highly dependent on the material properties. In homogeneous isotropic plates, Lamb modes can be grouped into symmetric and anti-symmetric modes, and they are decoupled from the shear modes.

A semi-analytical finite element model for the analysis of piezolaminated cylindrical shells
SPIE Proceedings, 2006This paper addresses bending of multilayered cylindrical shells with piezoelectric properties using a semi-analytical axisymmetric shell finite element model with piezoelectric layers using the 3D linear elastic theory. In the present model, the equations of motion are derived by expanding the displacement field using the Fourier series in the ...
