Popular Methods of Biological Control and the Future of Baculoviruses [PDF]
Biological control is a pest management strategy with the goal of reducing pest populations through human collaboration. Methods of biological control used to combat pests involve the physical removal of organisms and the application of predators ...

SeMNPV reactivation through stress factors in covertly infected Spodoptera exigua
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of different stress factors on covertly infected Spodptera exigua larvae in terms of virus reactivation. For this, adult survivors that had ingested occlusion bodies of S. exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) were mated and the subsequent generation (F1) tested for virus reactivation in the ...

Sex-specific variation in vertical transmission of SeMNPV
Póster presentado en la 45th Annual Meeting of the Society for Invertebrate Pathology, celebrada en Buenos Aires del 5 al 9 de agosto de 2012. Vertical transmission of baculovirus naturally occurs in lepidopteran populations, and has been proposed as a strategy for virus survival during periods of host scarcity or for improving virus dispersal ...

Genetic baculovirus determinants for pathogenicity, virulence and transmission [PDF]
Esta tesis se centra en la caracterización biológica del baculovirus de Spodoptera exigua para mejorar nuestro conocimiento sobre el papel de la diversidad genotípica y sobre la implicación de genes individuales en patogenicidad, virulencia y transmisión.

SeMNPV reactivation through stress factors in covertly infected Spodoptera exigua
Spontaneous reactivation of baculovirus has been postulated as the main cause to explain outbreaks in laboratory insect cultures that have never been exposed to virus and in the development of epizootics in natural populations. Recent studies have reported a high prevalence of baculovirus covert infections in lepidopteran populations, such as ...

On the competitive fitness of baculoviruses in insects [PDF]
Mixed infections of baculoviruses in insect hosts are quite common in nature. This leads to ‘within-host’ and ‘between-host’ competition between virus variants.

Comparative effects of "defective" genotypes in NPV populations: their roles in SfMNPV vs SeMNPV
The Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) isolate from Florida, US (SeUS2) is a complex mixture of genotypes. The genotypic structure of this isolate is very similar to that of the S. frugiperda MNPV isolated from Nicaragua (SfNIC), which is composed of at least nine genotypes.
