Eurasian spruce bark beetle detects lanierone using a highly expressed specialist odorant receptor, present in several functional sensillum types

BMC Biology
Insects detect odours using odorant receptors (ORs) expressed in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) in the antennae. Ecologically important odours are often detected by selective and abundant OSNs; hence, ORs with high antennal expression.

Activity modulation in cockroach sensillum: The role of octopamine

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2006
The plasticity of sensory perception is provided partially by modulation of receptor cells. The electrical activity of American cockroach chemoreceptor cells in response to sex pheromone was measured under the influence of octopamine treatment and tracheal anoxia.

Chemoreceptor sensillum structure in Limulus

Journal of Morphology, 1966
AbstractThe chemoreceptors of Limulus polyphemus (L.) are polyneuronal sensilla found in the spines of the coxal gnathobases of each walking leg, the spines of the chilarial appendages, and the chelae of all the limbs. Each sensillum contains 6–15 bipolar sensory cells that share a single pore in the cuticle.

Ultrastructure of the blowfly chemoreceptor sensillum (Phormia regina)

Journal of Morphology, 1976
AbstractThe ultrastructure of a well studied insect chemosensory unit is presented in this report. Two separate lumina are present in this chemosensory unit, the trichogen and sensillar lumina. The fluid within the trichogen lumen exclusively bathes the dendritic terminals, and may be involved with the reception and/or modulation of environmental ...

Three-dimensional reconstruction of insect chemosensory sensillum

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
The olfactory system is involved in food and mate recognition in insects. However, 3D structures of chemosensory sensilla in insects are unexplored yet. Here, the internal structures of an olfactory sensillum on the antenna of the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Hemiptera: Delphacidae), one of the most important rice pests, are examined and ...

Fine structure of the chemoreceptor sensillum in Limulus

Journal of Morphology, 1971
AbstractEach chemoreceptor sensillum of Limulus polyphemus consists of 6–15 bipolar neurosensory cells with distal processes confined within a single cuticular tubule as they extend to the outside environment. The cuticular tubule, which is enveloped by the cuticulo‐tubal cell, opens proximally into a fluid‐filled extracellular space through which the ...

[Research progress on insect single sensillum recording.]

Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2022
Single sensillum recording is an insect extracellular electrophysiological technique, which can measure the electrophysiological responses of a single sensillum to stimuli in insects. It can help explore the electrophysiologi-cal response mechanism of insect olfactory and taste receptors to different semiochemicals.
