Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY): French National Diagnosis and Care Protocol (PNDS, Protocole National de Diagnostic et de Soins)

open access: yesOrphanet Journal of Rare Diseases
MODY (Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young) is characterized by autosomal dominant mode of inheritance, early onset of diabetes in the absence of autoimmunity directed to pancreatic β-cells, impaired insulin secretory capacity, however, maintained over ...

Domain-sensitivity

open access: yesSynthese, 2010
In this paper, I argue that there are good motivations for a relativist account of the domain-sensitivity of quantifier phrases. I will frame the problem as a puzzle involving what looks like a logically valid inference, yet one whose premises are true while the conclusion is false. After discussing some existing accounts, literalist and contextualist,

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

A Nanoparticle, Fluorescence-Based Rinse for Caries Activity Assessment, an in Vitro Study

open access: yesInternational Dental Journal
Objectives: This in vitro study aimed to compare the agreement of a starch-based nanoparticle fluorescence rinse (FR) (LumiCare™ Caries Detection Rinse, GreenMark Biomedical Inc.) in the assessment of caries activity of initial smooth surface carious ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A Comparison of Contrast-Enhanced Voiding Urosonography (CE-VUS) and Contrast Retrograde Cystourethrography (RCUG) for the Detection of Vesicoureteral Reflux in Young Dogs

open access: yesAnimals
The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate contrast-enhanced urosonography (CE-VUS) as an alternative to radiographic retrograde cystourethrography (RCUG) in the detection of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in young dogs.

The effect of antimicrobial agents on planktonic and biofilm forms of bacteria that are isolated from chronic anal fissures

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems, 2017
The microorganisms that are formed in biofilm cause about 60% of chronic and recurrent diseases, and as a consequence, traditional etiotropic antibacterial therapy is ineffective.

Constructions of sensitive graphs which are not strongly sensitive

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1988
Let \(G\) be a simple graph with vertex set \(V(G)\) and edge set \(E(G)\). For each \(a\) in \(V(G)\), let \(N(a)=\{x\in V(G): ax\in E(G)\}\) be the set of neighbours of \(a\). A subset \(S\) of \(V(G)\) is called a closed set of \(G\) if, for each pair of distinct elements \(a\), \(b\) in \(S\), \(N(a)\cap N(b)\subseteq S\).

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
