Sensitivity analysis and parameter estimation for evaluating the impact of water pollution on aquatic species [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Ecology and Software
Aquatic ecosystems are highly sensitive to changes in environmental conditions, making it essential to identify the key factors that influence the dynamics of species populations.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Pygpc: A sensitivity and uncertainty analysis toolbox for Python

open access: yesSoftwareX, 2020
We present a novel Python package for the uncertainty and sensitivity analysis of computational models. The mathematical background is based on the non-intrusive generalized polynomial chaos method allowing one to treat the investigated models as black ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Dielectrophoretic Sensitivity Analysis of Cell Characterization

open access: yes, 2017
Dielectrophoresis (DEP) has been intensively studied to differentiate cells treated with heat or drugs. To estimate cell properties from DEP experiments, the multi-dimensional relationship between the electrical polarization and the electrical properties

Feers: A Sensitivity Analysis

open access: yes, 1999
Since the term was first used (Williamson, 1983), a large number of authors have calculated Fundamental Equilibrium Exchange Rates (hereafter FEERs). As a result FEERs have become the main rival to PPP calculations as a method of assessing whether an exchange rate is undervalued or overvalued.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Usefulness of high-sensitivity IL-6 measurement for clinical characterization of patients with coronary artery disease

open access: yes, 2005
Interleukin 6 (IL-6) may represent an early marker of inflammatory activation and may be useful to ameliorate risk stratification in patients with ischemic heart disease.
