Uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis of a nuclear thermal propulsion reactor startup sequence

open access: yesFrontiers in Nuclear Engineering
The research presented in this article describes progress in applying stochastic methods, uncertainty quantification, parametric studies, and variance-based sensitivity analysis (also known as Sobol sensitivity analysis) to a full-core model of a nuclear

Dynamic analysis of Apollo-Salyut/Soyuz docking [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
The use of a docking-system computer program in analyzing the dynamic environment produced by two impacting spacecraft and the attitude control systems is discussed.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Sensitivity-based multistep MPC for embedded systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In model predictive control (MPC), an optimization problem is solved every sampling instant to determine an optimal control for a physical system. We aim to accelerate this procedure for fast systems applications and address the challenge of implementing

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Efficient Data Transmission Using MPPM Dimming Control in Indoor Visible Light Communication

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
In conventional visible light communication (VLC) dimming control systems utilizing pulse width modulation (PWM), reducing the duty cycle will push up the receiver sensitivity requirement if the transmission rate is kept constant.

Frequency and voltage partitioning in presence of renewable energy resources for power system (example: North Chile power network) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper investigates techniques for frequency and voltage partitioning of power network based on the graph-theory. These methods divide the power system into distinguished regions to avoid the spread of disturbances and to minimize the interaction ...
