Insulin sensitivity index (ISI 0-120) from oral glucose tolerance test in healthy young adults

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2017
Background: Insulin sensitivity (IS) is the body’s systemic responsiveness to glucose and it is the measure of the ability of endogenous insulin to reduce the glucose in extracellular fluids by inhibition of gluconeogenesis and increase peripheral ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Theoretical and numerical approach for quantifying sensitivity to system parameters of nonlinear systems

open access: yesNonlinear Engineering
Sensitivity evaluation of nonlinear systems to system parameters is critically important in nonlinear dynamics, though current focuses in the field are mainly on the sensitive dependence of nonlinear systems upon initial conditions.

Application of Extrapolation Capability of Vector Fitting for Out-of-Band Dominant Modal Synthesis of Voltage-Source Converters

open access: yesIEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy
Conventional state-space-based stability assessment method of voltage-source converters (VSCs) can be hindered by the black-box feature. Black box-based state-space model identification method using the terminal admittance/impedance frequency responses ...

Refractive-index sensing with ultra-thin plasmonic nanotubes

open access: yes, 2012
We study the refractive-index sensing properties of plasmonic nanotubes with a dielectric core and ultra-thin metal shell. The few-nm thin metal shell is described by both the usual Drude model and the nonlocal hydrodynamic model to investigate the ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Global Sensitivity Analysis of Stochastic Computer Models with joint metamodels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The global sensitivity analysis method, used to quantify the influence of uncertain input variables on the response variability of a numerical model, is applicable to deterministic computer code (for which the same set of input variables gives always the

Local refractive index sensitivity of plasmonic nanoparticles

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We report on an experimental characterization of the sensitivity of localized surface plasmons (LSP) to local changes in the refractive index at a nanometer scale. The method is based on forming a polymer mask covering different well defined areas of metallic nanoparticles and measuring the extinction peak shifts associated with the local refractive ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.
