Trace Elements Genetics: A Potential Role in Treatment‐Resistant Major Psychoses and Related Traits?

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Trace elements are pivotal to key biological processes, with possible effects on psychopathology. We investigated the hypothesis of shared genetic factors between trace elements levels, treatment resistance and related traits. We used genome‐wide summary statistics for trace elements blood concentration, treatment‐resistant depression (TRD ...

SDPR–STK38 axis controls the proliferation–differentiation balance in alveolar type II cells

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The present study identifies SDPR as a pivotal regulator orchestrating the balance between proliferation and differentiation in alveolar type II (AT2) cells. In SDPR+/+ cells, SDPR binds to and inhibits STK38 activity, thereby sustaining GSK‐3β signaling functionality to promote cyclin D1 degradation and maintain cell cycle homeostasis.

Sex-specific associations between the developmental alterations in the pituitary-thyroid hormone axis and thyroid nodules in Chinese euthyroid adults: a community-based cross−sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
BackgroundPrevious studies have revealed the sex-specific features of pituitary–thyroid hormone (TH) actions and the prevalence of thyroid nodules (TNs) in children and adolescents. However, it was unclear in adults.

Receptors of thyroid hormones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The important physiological actions of the thyroid hormones are mediated by binding to nuclear thyroid hormone receptors (TRs), encoded by two genes TRalpha and TRbeta.

Effects of intermittent exposure to hypobaria and cold on the microarchitecture and morphofunctional profile of rat gastrocnemius muscle

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (IHH) enhances oxygen transport, muscle metabolism, and cardiovascular health; however, the combined effects of hypobaria and cold are less well understood. Exposure to these stressful environmental factors, even intermittently, can affect skeletal muscle due to its plasticity, thereby altering its metabolic and ...

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance profiles and associations with thyroid hormones in a coal mining population from Shanxi Province, China

open access: yesEnvironment International
Background: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) exposure may cause endocrine disruption. However, PFAS exposure and their potential associations with thyroid hormones remain unclear in coal mining areas.

A critical reappraisal of the carotid sinus and carotid bulb: Distinguishing neurohistological function from vascular geometry

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
This review redefines the carotid bulb (CB) as a variable geometric dilation shaped by hemodynamics and the carotid sinus (CS) as a conserved neurohistological baroreceptor field. Distinguishing these entities clarifies a century of anatomical confusion and links geometry, neurohistology, and clinical interpretation within a unified framework ...

Heat Stress in Quail: Impacts on Health and Productivity, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts physiological homeostasis in quail, inducing oxidative stress, immune dysregulation, and metabolic imbalance, which impair growth, reproduction, product quality, and welfare. Integrating nutritional, environmental, and genetic–epigenetic strategies enhances thermotolerance, sustains productivity, and supports climate‐smart quail ...
