Sensitization and tolerance

Current Opinion in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2001
The mechanisms responsible for sensitization, in particular within the gastrointestinal tract, are IgE-mediated as well as of a non-IgE-mediated, immunological origin. The phenomenon that is the opposite of sensitization is the maintenance of tolerance and is exemplified by the phenomenon 'oral tolerance'.

Punctate sensitivity of the blue-sensitive mechanism

Vision Research, 1981
Abstract Thresholds were measured for a tiny, brief, violet flash on a long wavelength, B cone-isolating background in foveal locations spaced only 4 or 5′ of arc apart. Large spatial variations in B cone sensitivity were found just beyond the foveal tritanopic area even though thresholds for the same wavelength test flash hardly varied at all across

Design problems for sensitivity and complementary sensitivity

Systems & Control Letters, 1990
The problem of finding a time-invariant controller for a given SISO (single-input, single output) plant so that the closed-loop system satisfies two tolerances for sensitivity and for complementary sensitivity simultaneously is considered. The solvability condition of the problem is derived in terms of an explicit inequality. It is also discovered that

Light-sensitive epoxy-based resins: Synthesis, light-sensitivity, spectro-sensitivity and sensitization

Polymer Photochemistry, 1984
Abstract This paper deals with the synthesis of an epoxy-based resin (Epidian 1) and chlorides of substituted derivatives of cinnamic acid in non-aqueous pyridine. The structures of the epoxyesters were obtained by quantitative analysis of functional groups and various spectroscopic methods such as UV and IR.

Spectral Sensitization and Sensitizing Dyes

2004
Silver halides have intrinsic sensitivity only at a wavelength shorter than about 450 nm, as described in Chapters 3 and 4. This means that silver halides themselves are not sensitive to green and red lights among visible light. Hence, spectral sensitization for the green and red regions of light is indispensable to both black-and-white and color ...

Sensitivity dipole and the sensitivity points method

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1964
Publisher Summary This chapter describes sensitivity dipole and the sensitivity points method. In addition to the general methods of computing sensitivity functions, several special methods have been developed for certain classes of systems. Among these, the method of sensitivity points is particularly useful for linear systems, offering two ...

From ‘Cultural Sensitivity’ to ‘Structural Sensitivity’

This chapter proposes the need for a paradigm shift from ‘cultural sensitivity’ to ‘structural sensitivity’ in safeguarding frameworks. It is argued that although international organizations claim that their safeguarding systems are culturally sensitive, those systems are usually built around the experience of those inside the international ...
