Microphone array sensor placement optimization in reverberant environments

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997
Microphone arrays can be used for high-quality sound pickup in reverberant and noisy environments. The beamforming capabilities of microphone array systems allow highly directional sound capture, providing a superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) when compared to single microphone performance.

Optimization of adaptive linear sensor node array in Wireless Sensor Network

2009 Asia Pacific Microwave Conference, 2009
This paper presents a method of optimizing sensor node coordination in order to reassign the nodes in linear array arrangement to form a linear antenna array. This linear sensor node array (LSNA) is constructed within random sensor node deployment.

Optimal arrangement of four‐sensor dynamic acoustic array

Sensor Review, 2012
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the theoretical relationship between the layout of four‐sensor dynamic acoustic array tracking system and systematic observation accuracy, and provide an algorithm to determine the optimal arrangement of four‐sensor acoustic array and an indicator to evaluate acoustic array system measurement accuracy ...

Optimal sensor separation for AoA based localization via linear sensor array

2010 Sixth International Conference on Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing, 2010
This paper investigates the linear separation requirements for Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) sensors, in order to achieve the optimal performance in estimating the position of a target from multiple and typically noisy sensor measurements. We analyse the sensor-target geometry in terms of the Cramer-Rao inequality and the corresponding Fisher information ...

Optimal analysis for sensor-target geometries of linear sensor arrays in UWSN

2017 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing, Communications and Computing (ICSPCC), 2017
Considering that the bearing measurement noise is distance-dependent in UWSN, this paper studies the sensortarget geometries optimization of linear sensor arrays and presents the optimal localization via noisy bearing measurements. As for the three constrained scenarios of linear sensor arrays, we analyze the optimal sensor-target geometries in terms ...

CRB-optimal sensor placement for multiple passive acoustic arrays

2013 IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing, 2013
This paper describes a method for selecting the location of multiple passive acoustic arrays to optimize information collection. The passive acoustic arrays are used to localize a contact, and our goal is to choose how to situate and orient the arrays to optimize this localization estimate. To this end, we derive the Cramer-Rao bound on the variance of

Optimization of beam patterns for acoustic array sensors

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1994
Abstract Acoustic sensors comprising beam-forming and electronic scanning equipment typically use a cylindrical multi-element transducer. When received signals are added without any delays, a wide-beam sensor is obtained. Unfortunately, the shape of the beam and the level of the side lobes is often far from satisfactory.

The optimization of low cost integrated pyroelectric sensor arrays

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1994
Abstract A matrix formalism for optical and thermal waves has been developed to provide an efficient tool for the device modelling and optimization of layered pyroelectric sensor structures. The performance of integrated pyroelectric sensors can be improved by a reduction of the heat flow from the pyroelectric element to the silicon chip. This can be

Array sensor spacing for optimal time‐delay estimation

Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, 1988
Abstract The effects of sensor spacing on the performance of time‐delay estimation are considered. For narrow‐band signals the array aperture and sensor spacing seriously change the estimation result. The post beamforming signal‐to‐noise ratio is also important for choosing the sensor spacing. The conventional half wavelength spacing is shown to be the

Optimal Adaptive Control of an Array of Passive Sensors

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1975
A sensor array is treated as a spatial filter in rejecting undesired signals. The array is governed by a control law derived from the noise covariance matrix supplied by the time-varying noise field in an optimal fashion. Signal-to-noise ratio is used as the optimality criterion. The optimal control law is self-adjusted by a simple adaptive scheme. The
