Consumer perceptions of plant-based and mushroom-based jerky: A focus on texture, main ingredient and protein information, and willingness to pay

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science
The expanding meat alternative market includes plant-based and fungus-based products which aim to mimic properties of animal meat. However, sensory and price parity have not been realized. This study characterized consumers' (N = 152) perceptions of four

Sensory processing sensitivity [PDF]

open access: yesPsihološka Istraživanja
The main aim of this review article is to describe the sensory processing sensitivity trait (SPS). People with this trait are highly sensitive individuals and the pertinent literature states that they make up 20% to 30% of the general population.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Disruption of Otoferlin Alters the Mode of Exocytosis at the Mouse Inner Hair Cell Ribbon Synapse

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2019
Sound encoding relies on Ca2+-mediated exocytosis at the ribbon synapse between cochlear inner hair cells (IHCs) and type I spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs).

Rapid modulation of sensory processing induced by stimulus conflict [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Humans are constantly confronted with environmental stimuli that conflict with task goals and can interfere with successful behavior. Prevailing theories propose the existence of cognitive control mechanisms that can suppress the processing of ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
