Reassessing Discordant Exudative Pleural Effusion in Heart Failure: A Rare Case of Occult Malignancy Uncovered by Post‐Thoracentesis Tension Pneumothorax

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Pleural effusions can be manifestations of heart failure, pulmonary embolism, infection, and malignancy. Symptom assessment, imaging, and pleural fluid analysis serve as key determinants in guiding clinical management. We present the case of a 75‐year‐old woman with a history of heart failure who developed worsening dyspnea and lower extremity

Fluorine‐18‐Labeled Nucleotide Analogs Targeting Ecto‐5'‐Nucleotidase (CD73) for Positron Emission Tomography Imaging of Solid Tumors

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 17, 20 April 2026.
Fluorine‐18‐labeled CD73 inhibitor [18F]PSB‐19427 enables noninvasive PET mapping of CD73 overexpression in triple‐negative breast (TNBC) and pancreatic cancer. For [18F]PSB‐19427, specific binding in human tumor tissues, favorable biodistribution with prolonged blood retention, robust tumor uptake, and superiority to [18F]FDG in a TNBC model ...

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Triple Negative Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review of Breast and Node Pathologic Response

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, Volume 133, Issue 6, Page 712-719, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pathological complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy is associated with improved prognosis in patients with triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC). Differences in pathological response rates between the breast and axillary lymph nodes have prompted interest in understanding response patterns that may, in the future ...

Prediction and Prognostication of Peripheral Blood Biomarkers in Head and Neck Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Volume 174, Issue 5, Page 1279-1288, May 2026.
Abstract Objective While many with head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cHNSCC) respond well to surgery alone, there is a need to refine traditional staging systems. We aim to identify whether peripheral blood biomarkers (PBBMs) may enhance current staging for prognostication and adjuvant treatment selection.

Atypical metastatic osteosarcoma pattern in a dog: Lymphatic, neurovascular and subcutaneous metastasis

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract A 6‐year‐old, spayed, female labrador retriever was presented with left distal radial swelling. Imaging, cytology and biopsy identified an aggressive radial lesion with metastasis to the left axillary lymph node, and a diagnosis of presumptive osteosarcoma was made.

Rethinking Invasive Mediastinal Staging in the Era of Neoadjuvant Immune‐Checkpoint Inhibitors

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 17, Issue 9, May 2026.
As neoadjuvant immunotherapy reshapes resectability in NSCLC, the role of invasive mediastinal staging is being fundamentally reconsidered—with implications for risk stratification, patient selection, and trial design. ABSTRACT Over the past several decades, the management of nonmetastatic nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has centered on identifying ...

A deep learning–clinical nomogram hybrid for predicting sentinel lymph node metastasis in melanoma

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 811-822, May 2026.
We developed MISSLE, a deep learning–clinical nomogram hybrid model, to predict sentinel lymph node metastasis in invasive cutaneous melanoma with a high area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.950 on the test set. MISSLE identifies key histopathological features and integrates AI for improved clinical decision‐making.
