Cutaneous Melanoma and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Surgical Oncology, 2008
To the Editors: As authors of a similar article,1 we read with great interest the report by Koskivuo et al.,2 in the December issue of the Annals of Surgical Oncology. We enthusiastically support the basic rationale for this paper and the two researched patient groups, which have been correctly balanced for most of the important prognostic factors ...

Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in early breast cancers is associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with early breast cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This study evaluated EMT and TIL shifts, with immunofluorescence and RNA sequencing, at diagnosis and in residual tumors as potential biomarkers associated with treatment response.

Ductal carcinoma in situ and sentinel lymph node metastasis in breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background The impact of sentinel lymph node biopsy on breast cancer mimicking ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a matter of debate. Methods We studied the rate of occurrence of sentinel lymph node metastasis in 255 breast cancer patients with pure DCIS

Essential Updates 2023/2024: Recent Advances of Multimodal Approach in Patients for Gastric Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gastric cancer remains a major global health burden, especially in East Asia. Recent years have brought significant advances in multimodal management, including surgery, perioperative chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care. This review summarizes key updates from 2023 to 2024, focusing on surgical innovations, perioperative systemic ...

Evaluation of Sentinel Node Biopsy in Oral Carcinomas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
It is still a matter of debate whether sentinel node biopsy might replace neck dissection in patients with clinically negative neck lymph nodes who suffer from oral squamous cell carcinoma.

A modified sentinel node and occult lesion localization (SNOLL) technique in non-palpable breast cancer. A pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: The spread of mammographic screening programs has allowed an increasing amount of early breast cancer diagnosis. A modern approach to non-palpable breast lesions requires an accurate intraoperative localization, in order to achieve a ...

Detection of circulating tumor cells is achieved by flow cytometry in melanoma patients

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Melanoma is an aggressive skin tumor whose incidence is rising sharply, and for which the determination of new prognostic factors is a major challenge. In oncology, circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are at the heart of much research, as they represent a source of tumor material obtained non‐invasively by liquid biopsy.

The Role of Machine Learning to Detect Occult Neck Lymph Node Metastases in Early‐Stage (T1‐T2/N0) Oral Cavity Carcinomas

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Oral cavity carcinomas (OCCs) represent roughly 50% of all head and neck cancers. The risk of occult neck metastases for early‐stage OCCs ranges from 15% to 35%, hence the need to develop tools that can support the diagnosis of detecting these neck metastases.
