Unsteady separation past moving surfaces

open access: yes, 1998
Unsteady boundary-layer development over moving walls in the limit of infinite Reynolds number is investigated using both the Eulerian and Lagrangian formulations.

On the Road to Biopolymer Aerogels—Dealing with the Solvent

open access: yesGels, 2015
Aerogels are three-dimensional ultra-light porous structures whose characteristics make them exciting candidates for research, development and commercialization leading to a broad scope of applications ranging from insulation and catalysis to ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Oil/water separation in a novel cyclone separator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Conventional bulk oil-water separation is performed in large gravity separators that take up large areas and potentially contain large volumes of hazardous material.

Surrogate Modelling for High-speed Rotating Flow Fields Based on Multi-fidelity Data Fusion

open access: yesJournal of Isotopes
High-speed rotating flow fields play a pivotal role in the mechanical systems used for stable heavy isotopes. The high dimensional design space of such complex rotating machinery is characterized by strong nonlinearity and substantial parameter coupling.

Research Progress in Flexible Wearable Strain Sensors Based on Polydimethylsiloxane

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2018
Traditional electronic strain sensors based on metal and semiconductor materials have poor flexibility and wear-ability, which are not applicable for stretchable sensors.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Dried MoS2–Cobalt Alginate Membrane for Rapid Catalytic Degradation of Methylisothiazolinone

open access: yesGels
The rapid development of industry has led to the discharge of large quantities of organic pollutants into water bodies, posing a significant threat to aquatic safety.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
