Investigating gas/solid separation using a novel compact inline separator [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Identified as an important issue for marginal fields, the removal of sand from hydrocarbon fluids has been investigated. A review of existing sand separation equipment has recognized a need for a new separator which will satisfy the design and

Speech enhancement via combination of Wiener filter and blind source separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Automatic speech recognition (ASR) often fails in acoustically noisy environments. Aimed to improve speech recognition scores of an ASR in a real-life like acoustical environment, a speech pre-processing system is proposed in this paper, which consists ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Large-Eddy Simulation of Flow Separation and Control on a Wall-Mounted Hump [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Active flow control techniques such as synthetic jets have been successful in increasing the performance of naturally separating flows on post-stall airfoils, bluff body shedding, and internal flows such as wide-angle diffusers.

Gas separation performance of 6FDA-DAM-ZIF-11 mixed-matrix membranes for H-2/CH4 and CO2/CH4 separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
In this study, gas separation performance of 6FDA-DAM-ZIF-11 mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with various ZIF-11 percentages (0, 10, 20, 30 wt.%) were investigated.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Numerical Investigation of 2D Ordered Pillar Array Columns: An Algorithm of Unit-Cell Automatic Generation and the Corresponding CFD Simulation

open access: yesSeparations
This paper presents a numerical investigation into the generation of 2D ordered pillar array columns for liquid chromatography columns, focusing on the development of an algorithm for the automatic creation of unit-cell morphologies and their subsequent ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
