Exploring the cosmic microwave background as a composition of signals with Kolmogorov analysis

open access: yes, 2009
The problem of separation of different signals in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation using the difference in their statistics is analyzed.

Gravitational lensing statistical properties in general FRW cosmologies with dark energy component(s): analytic results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Various astronomical observations have been consistently making a strong case for the existence of a component of dark energy with negative pressure in the universe.

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Cross-Identification Performance from Simulated Detections: GALEX and SDSS

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate the quality of associations of astronomical sources from multi-wavelength observations using simulated detections that are realistic in terms of their astrometric accuracy, small-scale clustering properties and selection functions.

RAD50 missense variants differentially affect the DNA damage response and mitotic progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
RAD50 incorporates into the MRN complex and initiates the DNA damage response. Furthermore, RAD50 promotes mitotic progression. RAD50 missense variants capable of forming an MRN complex supported the DNA damage response and mitotic features to different extents in complementation experiments, indicating these functions are separable and might impact ...

Exploiting Acoustic Similarity of Propagating Paths for Audio Signal Separation

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2003
Blind signal separation can easily find its position in audio applications where mutually independent sources need to be separated from their microphone mixtures while both room acoustics and sources are unknown.

Statistical separability of spectral classes of blighted corn

open access: yesRemote Sensing of Environment, 1974
A study was conducted to determine the statistical separability of multispectral measurements from corn having varying levels of southern corn leaf blight severity. Multispectral scanner data in twelve spectral channels in the wavelength range 0.4 to 11.7 microns were analyzed for ten selected flightlines of the 1971 Corn Blight Watch Experiment.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Psychometric evaluation of the Decision Support System (DSS) for municipal nurses encountering health deterioration among older adults

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics
Background A valid and reliable tool is crucial for municipal registered nurses (RNs) to make quick decisions in older adults who show rapid signs of health deterioration.

A Non-Parametric Test for Non-Independent Noises Against a Bilinear Dependence

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2005
A new methodology, based on the asymptotic separation of probability laws, was introduced by Gonçalves, Jacob and Mendes-Lopes (2000) in the development of the statistical inference of bilinear models, namely in the construction of a consistent decision
