Abstract The hippocampal formation is essential for spatial navigation and episodic memory. The anatomical structure is largely similar across mammalian species, apart from the deep polymorphic layer of the dentate gyrus and the adjacent part of cornu ammonis 3 (CA3) which feature substantial variations.

Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to identify prognostic biomarkers for posttraumatic epileptogenesis derived from parameters related to the hippocampal position and orientation. Methods Data were derived from two preclinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow‐up studies: EPITARGET (156 rats) and Epilepsy Bioinformatics Study for ...

Abstract Single units were recorded in hippocampus, lateral septum (LS), and dorsomedial striatum (DMS) while freely behaving rats (n = 3) ran trials in a T‐maze task and rested in a holding bucket between trials. In LS, 28% (64/226) of recorded neurons were excited and 14% (31/226) were inhibited during sharp wave ripples (SWRs).

The dentate gyrus (DG) is the gateway of sensory information arriving from the perforant pathway (PP) to the hippocampus. The adequate integration of incoming information into the DG is paramount in the execution of hippocampal‐dependent cognitive functions.

The subiculum is one of output structures of the hippocampal formation and plays a pivotal role in learning and memory. Because its morphological features are less investigated than those of the hippocampus proper, we explored the internal structure of the rat subiculum using immunohistochemistry.

The Future of Neuroscience: Flexible and Wireless Implantable Neural Electronics
In this progress report, the evolution of neural stimulation is explored with a view to providing practical design guidelines for innovative, flexible, and fully integrated implantable probes. From the foreign body response, to the material characteristics of the brain, all aspects of the target tissue must be accommodated.
