Shotgun Sequence Assembly

2004
Abstract Shotgun sequencing is the most widely used technique for determining the DNA sequence of organisms. It involves breaking up the DNA into many small pieces that can be read by automated sequencing machines, then piecing together the original genome using specialized software programs called assemblers.

COMPLEXITY MEASURES FOR ASSEMBLY SEQUENCES

International Journal of Computational Geometry & Applications, 1999
Our work focuses on various complexity measures for two-handed assembly sequences. For many products, there exist an exponentially large set of valid sequences, and a natural goal is to use automated systems to select wisely from the choices. Although there has been a great deal of algorithmic success for finding feasible assembly sequences, there has

Efficient algorithms for sequence assembly

2013 IEEE 3rd International Conference on Computational Advances in Bio and medical Sciences (ICCABS), 2013
Sequencing genomes is one of the most fundamental problems in modern biology and has immense impact on biomedical research. De novo sequencing is computationally more challenging when compared to sequencing with a reference genome. Repeats, for instance, make genome assembly extremely difficult.

Complexity measures for assembly sequences

Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002
We examine various complexity measures for two-handed assembly sequences. For many products there exists an exponentially large set of valid sequences, and a natural goal is to use automated systems to select wisely from the choices. Since assembly sequencing is a preprocessing phase for a long and expensive manufacturing process, any work towards ...

Computability of Models for Sequence Assembly

2007
Graph-theoretic models have come to the forefront as some of the most powerful and practical methods for sequence assembly. Simultaneously, the computational hardness of the underlying graph algorithms has remained open. Here we present two theoretical results about the complexity of these models for sequence assembly.

Assembly sequence structures in design for assembly

Proceedings of the 1997 IEEE International Symposium on Assembly and Task Planning (ISATP'97) - Towards Flexible and Agile Assembly and Manufacturing -, 2002
Historically, design-for-assembly (DFA) has always been a reactive tool, most often carried out on products in production and at best, late on in the product introduction process. Thus, a more proactive approach is required. This paper proposes the use of an assembly sequence model as the focus of such a computer-based DFA tool, which would support the

Representations of mechanical assembly sequences

IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, 1991
Five types of representations for assembly sequences are reviewed: the directed graph of feasible assembly sequences; the AND/OR graph of feasible assembly sequences; the set of establishment conditions, and two types of precedence relationships namely those between the establishment of one connection between parts and the establishment of another ...

Genome Assembler for Repetitive Sequences

2012
The article presents a new algorithm for random DNA fragment assembly. The algorithm uses an extended de Bruijn graph that stores information of reads coverage. It is able to reconstruct consecutive repetitive sequences longer than reads and to process large amount of data provided by new generation sequencers.

Neuro-fuzzy comprehensive assemblability and assembly sequence evaluation

Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing, 2001
Analysis of assembly properties of a product is needed during the initial design stage in order to identify potential assembly problems, which affect product performance in the later stages of life cycle. Assemblability analysis and evaluation play a key role in assembly design, assembly operation analysis and assembly planning.

Computation With Sequences of Assemblies in a Model of the Brain

Neural Computation
Abstract Even as machine learning exceeds human-level performance on many applications, the generality, robustness, and rapidity of the brain’s learning capabilities remain unmatched. How cognition arises from neural activity is the central open question in neuroscience, inextricable from the study of intelligence itself. A simple formal
