Fold recognition from sequence comparisons

Proteins: Structure, Function, and Genetics, 2001
We applied a new protocol based on PSI-Blast to predict the structures of fold recognition targets during CASP4. The protocol used a back-validation step to infer biologically significant connections between sequences with PSI-Blast E-values up to 10.

Sequence comparison of pigeon circoviruses

Research in Veterinary Science, 2008
The genome sequences of eight pigeon circoviruses (PiCV) were determined and compared with four previously published sequences. The viruses compared were from the USA, five European countries, China and Australia and included PiCVs from racing, feral, ornamental and meat pigeons and a Senegal dove (Streptopelia senegalensis).

Finding anchors for genomic sequence comparison

Proceedings of the eighth annual international conference on Computational molecular biology - RECOMB '04, 2004
Recent sequencing of the human and other mammalian genomes has brought about the necessity to align them, to identify and characterize their commonalities and differences. Programs that align whole genomes generally use a seed-and-extend technique, starting from exact or near-exact matches and selecting a reliable subset of these, called anchors, and ...

Sequence Comparison Tools

2009
The evolution of methods which capture genetic sequence data has inspired a parallel evolution of computational tools which can be used to analyze and compare the data. Indeed, much of the progress in modern biological research has stemmed from the application of such technology.

Miropeats: graphical DNA sequence comparisons

Bioinformatics, 1995
Miropeats displays DNA sequence similarity information graphically. The program discovers regions of similarity amongst any set of DNA sequences and then draws a graphic that summarizes the length, location and relative orientations of any repeated sequences.

Dot Matrix Pairwise Sequence Comparison

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2007
INTRODUCTIONA dot matrix analysis is primarily a method for comparing two sequences to look for possible alignment of characters between the sequences. The method is also used for finding direct or inverted repeats in protein and DNA sequences, and for predicting regions in RNA that are self-complementary and that, therefore, have the potential of ...

Comparison of musical sequences

Computers and the Humanities, 1990
Concepts from the theory of sequence comparison are adapted to measure the overall similarity or dissimilarity between two musical scores. A key element is the notion of consolidation and fragmentation, different both from the deletions and insertions familiar in sequence comparison, and from the compressions and expansions of time warping in automatic

Protein sequence comparisons: searching databases and aligning sequences

Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 1994
As the explosive growth of sequence databases continues, both the content of these databases and the best strategies for exploiting them are changing. Remarkable improvements in the performance of microcomputers have put very sophisticated tools within the reach of all investigators.

Sequence Comparisons and Sequence-Based Database Searches

2018
The comparison of protein and DNA sequences is an important analytical method of applied bioinformatics. The annotations of new nucleotide and protein sequences, construction of model structures for proteins, design and analysis of expression studies, and a variety of other bioinformatic and biological experiments are all based on these analyses ...
