Biodegradation of phenolic mixtures in a sequencing batch reactor
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2008In this study, attention was focused on substituted phenols because of their widespread presence in industrial effluents originating from many different sources: they are major constituents of wastewater from coal conversion processes, coke ovens, petroleum refineries and petrochemical industries, resin and fibreglass manufacturing and herbicide ...

In the present study, one PAM degrading bacterial strain, originally named HWBI, was isolated from an activated sludge sample and used as an exogenous bacteria for bioaugmentation. The strain was primarily identified as Bacillus cereus. One contact oxidation reactor (COR) and one sequencing batch reactor (SBR) were bioaugmented with the HWBI ...

Intracellular Polymers in Aerobic Sludge of Sequencing Batch Reactors
Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2000The formation and characteristics of intracellular polymers in aerobic sludge of sequencing batch reactors were investigated at ambient temperature under balanced nutrient conditions. Three substrates of different chemical natures, including fatty acid (acetate), carbohydrate (glucose), and aromatic (benzoate), were fed to individual reactors.

Aerobic granulation with brewery wastewater in a sequencing batch reactor
Bioresource Technology, 2007Aerobic granular sludge was cultivated in a sequencing batch reactor fed with brewery wastewater. After nine-week operation, stable granules with sizes of 2-7 mm were obtained. With the granulation, the SVI value decreased from 87.5 to 32 mL/g. The granular sludge had an excellent settling ability with the settling velocity over 91 m/h.

Investigation of fill and batch periods of sequencing batch biological reactors
Water Research, 1977Abstract Early use of sequencing batch (fill and draw) biological reactors was abandoned in favor of conventional continuous flow constant volume treatment systems because of operational difficulties. Recent advances in process control and the need to provide more reliable and consistent treatment have called for the re-evaluation of present ...

Characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus removal in a sequencing batch reactor
Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2011Laboratory scale experiments were conducted to study the characteristics of N and P removal under different influent organic carbon concentration in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with simple anaerobic/aerobic operating mode. Experimental results indicated that, under the operating condition of influent N concentration of 89 mg/L and P concentration ...

Characterization and evaluation of aerobic granules in sequencing batch reactor
Journal of Biotechnology, 2003In order to investigate the aerobic granules cultured under alternating aerobic and anoxic conditions, a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) was operated without the presence of a carrier material. Nitrification and denitrification occurred alternately in the SBR operation, with an increased nitrification efficiency of up to 97% and a high chemical oxygen ...

Kinetic response of the sequencing batch reactor
2010The kinetic response of the sequencing batch reactor was investigated using 9 lab scale (5 liter working volume) acrylic reactors. The reactors were operated simultaneously in a 3 X 3 factorial experiment using temperature and feed strength as the major independent variables. The experiment was replicated over time.

Colour removal in Sequencing Batch Reactors
2004The primary objective of this research was to study the biological colour removal from a simulated textile effluent containing an azo reactive dye with a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR). Further objectives were to achieve reductions in Ammonia and COD in the effluent wastewater.
