Predicting the Future Burden of Renal Replacement Therapy in Türkiye Using National Registry Data and Comparative Modeling Approaches

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic kidney disease is a growing public health problem worldwide, and the number of patients requiring renal replacement therapy is steadily increasing. Türkiye has experienced a similar rise in both the incidence and prevalence of renal replacement therapy over the past decades; however, national‐level projections of future ...

A Bayesian non-inferiority approach using experts’ margin elicitation – application to the monitoring of safety events

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2019
Background When conducing Phase-III trial, regulatory agencies and investigators might want to get reliable information about rare but serious safety outcomes during the trial. Bayesian non-inferiority approaches have been developed, but commonly utilize

Sequential Association Rule Mining for Autonomously Extracting Hierarchical Task Structures in Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Reinforcement learning (RL) techniques, while often powerful, can suffer from slow learning speeds, particularly in high dimensional spaces or in environments with sparse rewards.

Exploiting Sequential Learning to Estimate Establishment-Level Productivity Dynamics and Decision Rules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper develops a sequential learning estimator of production functions and productivity dynamics for unbalanced establishment panels. Extending an idea from the literature on dynamic industry models, establishments are uncertain about their own idiosyncratic productivities and update productivity beliefs using information revealed by their ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Early-detection scheme based on sequential tests for low-latency communications

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2023
We propose an early-detection scheme to reduce communications latency based on sequential tests under finite blocklength regime for a fixed-rate transmission without any feedback channel.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

On a stopping rule for a class of sequential decision problems

open access: yesMetrika, 1983
The two-armed bandit problem with one probability known is considered and it is proven that the following stopping rule holds for the discounted case with finite horizon: if, at some given trial, the arm with the known probability is optimal, it will remain optimal throughout the subsequent trials.
