Statistical inference for sequential designs of randomized clinical trials with binary responses

2023
Sequential designs of Randomized Clinical Trials (RCT) allow repeated significance testing based on cumulative data over time. The sequential testing method enables early termination of the study using a pre-defined stopping rule when preliminary results show a clear superiority of one treatment over the other.

Statistical Metamodeling and Sequential Design of Computer Experiments to Model Glyco-Altered Gating of Sodium Channels in Cardiac Myocytes

IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, 2016
Glycan structures account for up to 35% of the mass of cardiac sodium ( Nav ) channels. To question whether and how reduced sialylation affects Nav activity and cardiac electrical signaling, we conducted a series of in vitro experiments on ventricular apex myocytes under two different glycosylation conditions, reduced protein sialylation (ST3Gal4(-/-))

Forming an optimum experimental design for statistical estimation of the probability of a random event using random sequential sampling

Measurement Techniques, 2012
It is proposed that multiple measurements be treated as a random sequential sample for probability estimates and a measurement procedure based on a sequential plan is constructed which will ensure fulfillment of specified limits on the probabilities of type 1 and type 2 errors with a minimum sample volume.

Production and sequential optimization of Bacillus subtilis MF467279 pullulanase by statistical experimental designs and evaluation of its desizing efficiency

Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology, 2018
Abstract In our search for a pullulanase production from unconventional sources, Bacillus subtilis MF467279 was isolated from the desert plant species Salsola imbricate, that collected from Tur Sinai, Egypt. The optimization of pullulanase enzyme was performed in three stages.

Statistical analysis and optimization of ammonia removal from landfill leachate by sequential microwave/aeration process using factorial design and response surface methodology

Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering, 2016
Abstract The application of microwave (MW) radiation followed by aeration (A) for the purpose of ammonia removal from both synthetic solutions and landfill leachate was investigated in this study. 100 mL of synthetic solution or landfill leachate was subjected to MW radiation for 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 s under 50 and 100% power output level and a pH ...

Isolation, identification and characterization of a novel Rhodococcus sp. strain in biodegradation of tetrahydrofuran and its medium optimization using sequential statistics-based experimental designs

Bioresource Technology, 2009
Statistics-based experimental designs were applied to optimize the culture conditions for tetrahydrofuran (THF) degradation by a newly isolated Rhodococcus sp. YYL that tolerates high THF concentrations. Single factor experiments were undertaken for determining the optimum range of each of four factors (initial pH and concentrations of K(2)HPO(4).3H(2 ...

A statistical approach to adaptive parameter tuning in nature-inspired optimization and optimal sequential design of dose-finding trials

2021
Summary: Nature-inspired metaheuristic algorithms have become increasingly popular in the last couple of decades, and now constitute a major toolbox for tackling complex high-dimensional optimization problems. Using group sequential experimentation, adaptive design, multi-armed bandits, and bootstrap resampling methods, this study develops a novel ...
