Clinical Features and Predictors of Hospital Stay in Paediatric Epstein–Barr Virus Infectious Mononucleosis: A Multicentre Cohort Study

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To describe age‐specific clinical features and identify predictors of length of hospital stay in children and adolescents with primary Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) infectious mononucleosis (IM). Methods This multicentre retrospective cohort study included all children and adolescents aged 0–17 years with a verified primary EBV infection in the

Screen‐Detected Coeliac Disease in a Nationally Representative Cohort: Health Indicators, Long‐Term Outcomes and Mortality

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
In a nationally representative Finnish cohort, screen‐detected coeliac disease was associated with iron deficiency, anaemia, and an atherogenic lipid profile at diagnosis, but long‐term gluten‐free treatment did not adversely affect quality of life, metabolic health, or mortality; supporting a favourable benefit‐harm balance for population‐based ...

Spatial heterogeneity in exposure to Brucella suis and pathogenic leptospires in feral pigs across New South Wales

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Feral pigs (Sus scrofa) are important reservoirs for zoonotic and livestock pathogens in Australia, but robust information on the spatial distribution of pathogens in pig populations remains limited. We analysed serological data from a systematic, state‐wide surveillance program to investigate spatial heterogeneity in exposure to Brucella suis and ...

Performance of point‐of‐care tests for diagnosing feline immunodeficiency virus infection in captive African lions (Panthera leo)

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Point‐of‐care (PoC) antibody (Ab) testing forms an integral component of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) diagnosis in both domestic and non‐domestic felids, with test kits designed for use in domestic cats frequently extrapolated for use in their wild counterparts. The SNAP® FIV/FeLV Combo lateral flow ELISA is commonly used to assign FIV infection

The immunological landscape of the area postrema in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Aquaporin‐4 antibody‐positive neuromyelitis spectrum disorder is characterized by large tissue destructive lesions in medulla, spinal cord, and optic nerves, with only partial recovery from clinical symptoms, and by lesions with very little tissue destruction and mostly complete recovery from clinical symptoms, as seen in the area postrema ...

A defensive symbiont and a plant virus confer direct and discrete phenotypes to a cereal aphid in a context‐dependent manner

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Different BYDV‐PAV isolates exert contrasting effects on aphid fitness, including reproduction and winged production. Different BYDV‐PAV isolates have contrasting effects on aphid dispersal patterns. Aphid feeding behaviour is modulated by the presence of endosymbionts and plant viruses.

Bringing Gene Therapy Into Real World Clinical Practice

open access: yesHaemophilia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Adeno‐associated virus (AAV)‐based gene therapy for haemophilia has shifted therapeutic paradigms by enabling hepatic gene transfer, restoring endogenous clotting factor expression, and reducing reliance on conventional prophylactic treatments. Two products, valoctocogene roxaparvovec (haemophilia A) and etranacogene dezaparvovec (

Anti‐Integrin αvβ6 Autoantibodies as Diagnostic and Monitoring Biomarkers for Pediatric‐Onset Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
Levels of anti‐integrin αvβ6 antibodies were significantly higher in pediatric‐onset primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) than in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and may reflect disease activity. These antibodies may serve as a novel biomarker for distinguishing PSC from AIH and for monitoring disease progression.

A scoping review of the acceptability, feasibility and effectiveness of opt‐out blood‐borne virus (BBV) testing in secondary healthcare settings, in the UK and similar settings, using APEASE criteria

open access: yesHIV Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Earlier diagnosis of blood‐borne viruses (BBVs)—HIV, hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV)—remains a significant public‐health focus. Opt‐out testing in secondary healthcare settings can improve early diagnosis and linkage to care as part of BBV transmission elimination targets.
