Assessing anxiolytic-like effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors using the elevated plus maze in mice

Methods and Findings in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, 2010
The anxiolytic-like effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs; paroxetine, fluvoxamine) and serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs; milnacipran, venlafaxine) were compared with those of benzodiazepines (diazepam, chlordiazepoxide) and tricyclic antidepressants (imipramine, amitriptyline) using the elevated plus maze in mice.

Attenuation of morphine dependence and withdrawal in rats by venlafaxine, a serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor

Life Sciences, 2001
The effects of venlafaxine, a novel serotonin and adrenaline reuptake inhibitor, on the morphine withdrawal and activation of morphine conditioned place preference (CPP), were investigated in rats. Our results showed that the most morphine withdrawal signs, including jumping, writhing, shakes, exploring, lacrimation, piloerection, irritability, and ...

Milnacipran: serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor approved for fibromyalgia may be a useful antidepressant

Australasian Psychiatry, 2018
Objective: Milnacipran is a serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) approved for treatment of fibromyalgia in Australia, but is used for depression in Europe and elsewhere. This paper will briefly review milnacipran and its utility in psychiatry for the treatment of depression.

Therapeutic effects of milnacipran, a serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor, on post-stroke depression

International Clinical Psychopharmacology, 2002
Depression is common after stroke. While several reports have been published on the use of antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and tricyclics for the treatment of post-stroke depression (PSD), no previous study has examined the use of a selective serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) for this condition.

In vitro effects of serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors on human platelet adhesion and coagulation

Pharmacological Reports, 2012
Although several studies show that there is an increased risk of bleeding events during antidepressant treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), few studies show direct effects in vitro of SSRIs on hemostasis. This study was undertaken to investigate the effects on platelet adhesion and plasma coagulation (APTT and PT) of two ...

[Serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors(SNRIs)].

Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2001
Pharmacology, clinical efficacy and tolerability of serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors(SNRIs) are overviewed. They include milnacipran, venlafaxine, duloxetine, MCI-225 and nefazodone, however, only milnacipran is currently used in Japan.

Occurrence of Tako-Tsubo Cardiomyopathy in Association with Ingestion of Serotonin/Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors

Heart, Lung and Circulation, 2012
Tako-Tsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) occurs particularly in post-menopausal women, being precipitated in many cases by severe emotional stress. We describe six patients in whom TTC occurred in association with therapeutic ingestion or overdose of the serotonin/noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor venlafaxine, or its metabolite desvenlafaxine.

Serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors: A new generation of treatment for anxiety disorders

International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice, 2006
A variety of agents are currently used to treat the different anxiety disorders. Benzodiazepines, such as diazepam, are still preferred by some for the treatment of acute anxiety, with the advantage of a rapid onset of action, but they are less suitable for long-term treatment due to their potential for memory disturbances, sleepiness, lethargy ...
