Caffeine and Headache: Exploring the Multifaceted Relationship

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose To explore the multifaceted relationship between caffeine and headache disorders, focusing on its dual role as both an analgesic and a potential trigger and to summarize the mechanisms underlying its anti‐nociceptive effects. Method This narrative review synthesizes evidence from experimental, clinical, and epidemiological studies on ...

Neurocognitive Aging Following Acute Illness: Pathobiology and a Framework for Developing Neurotherapeutic Agents

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
In this review, we discuss the scientific basis for how neurocognitive aging occurs after critical illness, including sepsis, trauma, and burns, and the clinical need to develop therapies to reduce inflammation, protect the blood–brain barrier, remove senescent cells, and enhance neuroplasticity.

Sentience in cephalopod molluscs: an updated assessment

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 1311-1333, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This article evaluates the evidence for sentience – the capacity to have feelings – in cephalopod molluscs: octopus, cuttlefish, squid, and nautilus. Our framework includes eight criteria, covering both whether the animal's nervous system could support sentience and whether their behaviour indicates sentience.

Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis in a Nulliparous Woman With Autism Spectrum Disorder Receiving Long‐Term Psychotropic Treatment and Normal Serum Prolactin Level: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare inflammatory breast disorder, primarily attributed to immunological dysregulation, hormonal imbalances, or fertility‐related conditions. We report a 26‐year‐old female with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) under long‐term multidrug psychotropic treatment who developed IGM.

Consensus on the Clinical Use of Pregabalin in Peripheral Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
Pregabalin, a second‐generation α2δ calcium‐channel ligand, exerts potent analgesic effects in peripheral neuropathic pain by reducing calcium influx, suppressing excitatory neurotransmitter release, and decreasing neuronal hyperexcitability. Based on a PRISMA‐guided review of 139 studies and multidisciplinary expert consensus, pregabalin demonstrates ...

5‐Hydroxytryptamine Distribution Alteration in Both Neuron and Synapse of Tg(SOD1*G93A)1gur Mice: A Potential Intervention Candidate Strategy for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study reveals that 5‐hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT) synapses in the spinal cord and 5‐HT neurons in the brainstem of the SOD1‐G93A amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) mouse model are significantly altered, showing a decrease in pre‐symptomatic stages but a marked increase as the disease progresses.
