Antibiotic Susceptibilities and Serotyping of Clinical Streptococcus Agalactiae Isolates

open access: yesBalkan Medical Journal, 2011
Objective: Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B streptococci, GBS) are frequently responsible for sepsis and meningitis seen in the early weeks of life. GBS may cause perinatal infection and premature birth in pregnant women.

Haemophilus influenzae Serotype a Invasive Disease, Alaska, USA, 1983–2011

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2013
Before introduction of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccines, rates of Hib disease in Alaska’s indigenous people were among the highest in the world. Vaccination reduced rates dramatically; however, invasive H.

ATF3 Deficiency Exacerbates Ageing‐Induced Atherosclerosis and Clinical Intervention Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Targeting ATF3 with terazosin to against VSMC Senescence and atherosclerosis. TZ reduces the binding affinity of YTHDF2 to Atf3 mRNA, while enhancing mRNA stability. ATF3 promotes Atg7 transcription, enhancing autophagy. ATG7 binds to ATF3 in the cytoplasm, facilitating ATF3 translocation to the nucleus and establishing positive feedback. By modulating

Mechanical Stress Induced NOX2 Promotes Endothelial Dysfunction in Ventilator‐Induced Lung Injury: Potential Treatment with Quercetin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Abnormal mechanical stretch induced by mechanical ventilation (MV) disrupts endothelial junctions via the NOX2/ROS/CaMKII/ERK1/2 axis both in human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) in vitro and in ventilator‐induced lung injury (VILI) in mice. Quercetin, an antioxidant predicted to bind to NOX2, can effectively prevent mechanical stretch‐induced ...

Identification of a divergent O-acetyltransferase gene oac1b from Shigella flexneri serotype 1b strains

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2012
Shigella flexneri is a leading cause of bacterial dysentery in developing countries. Among the 15 known serotypes, four (1b, 3a, 3b and 4b) contain a group 6 epitope due to an acetyl group connected to the O-2 position of rhamnose III on the ...

Parvalbumin Interneuron‐Dependent Hippocampal Neurogenesis Evoked by Prolonged Rhythmic Light Flicker

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that prolonged rhythmic 40 Hz light flicker enhances spatial learning by stimulating PV interneuron‐dependent neurogenesis. The light flicker selectively activates PV interneurons, which enhances GABAergic support for the integration of immature neurons in the adult dentate gyrus.

Polymorphic α‐Glucans as Structural Scaffolds in Cryptococcus Cell Walls for Chitin, Capsule, and Melanin: Insights From 13C and 1H Solid‐State NMR

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Cryptococcus neoformans cell wall α‐1,3‐glucans as dual anchors for melanin and capsule: Solid‐state NMR of intact C. neoformans cells reveals five forms of α‐1,3‐glucans that structurally bridge melanin and capsule layers. These polysaccharides interact with chitin, chitosan, and β‐glucans to create a molecular scaffold that underlies virulence and ...
