The Staphylococcus aureus allelic genetic loci for serotype 5 and 8 capsule expression contain the type-specific genes flanked by common genes [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology, 1997
Summary: The nucleotide sequences of two gene clusters, cap5 and cap8, involved in the synthesis of Staphylococcus aureus type 5 and type 8 capsular polysaccharides (CPs), respectively, were determined. Each gene cluster contained 16 ORFs, which were named cap5A through cap5P for type 5 CP and cap8A through cap8P for type 8 CP.

Structural analysis of the variable major proteins of Borrelia hermsii. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Borrelia hermsii undergoes spontaneous antigenic variation in vivo and in vitro. Serotype specificity is associated with expression of one of a family of molecular weight-variable proteins, the pI proteins.

Microevolution during the emergence of a monophasic Salmonella Typhimurium epidemic in the United Kingdom [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Microevolutionary events associated with the emergence and clonal expansion of new 27 epidemic clones of bacterial pathogens hold the key to understanding the drivers of 28 epidemiological success.

A Novel Serotype-Specific Gene Cassette ( gltA-gltB ) Is Required for Expression of Teichoic Acid-Associated Surface Antigens in Listeria monocytogenes of Serotype 4b [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2001
ABSTRACT Listeria monocytogenes serotype 4b strains account for about 40% of sporadic cases and many epidemics of listeriosis. Mutations in a chromosomal locus resulted in loss of reactivity with all three monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) which were specific to serotype 4b and the closely related serotypes 4d and 4e. Here

An Alliance of Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae with Precise Capsular Serotypes and Clinical Determinants: A Disquietude in Hospital Setting

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2022
Carbapenemase-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) is a genuine burden for physicians and researchers. We aimed at carbapenemase resistance and its relation with capsular serotyping in K.

ApuA, a multifunctional x-glucan-degrading enzyme of Streptococcus suis, mediates adhesion to porcine epithelium and mucus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We have identified apuA in Streptococcus suis, which encodes a bifunctional amylopullulanase with conserved -amylase and pullulanase substrate-binding domains and catalytic motifs.

Molecular Characterization of Streptococcus agalactiae Causing Community- and Hospital-acquired Infections in Shanghai, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
Streptococcus agalactiae, a colonizing agent in pregnant women and the main cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis, has been increasingly associated with invasive disease in nonpregnant adults. We collected a total of 87 non-repetitive S.

Characterization of the specific O-polysaccharide structure and biosynthetic gene cluster of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis serotype O:15

open access: yesInnate Immunity, 2009
Yersinia pseudotuberculosis serotyping scheme contains 21 serotypes based on the distribution of about 30 different O-factors within the species. The chemical structures of LPSs and the genetic basis of their biosynthesis has been determined for a number of Y. pseudotuberculosis strains representing different serotypes; thus, an overall picture of the

ThewclYgene ofEscherichia coliserotype O117 encodes an α1,4-glucosyltransferase with strict acceptor specificity but broad donor specificity

open access: yesGlycobiology, 2020
AbstractThe O antigen of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli serotype O117 consists of repeating units with the structure [-D-GalNAcβ1-3-L-Rhaα1-4-D-Glcα1-4-D-Galβ1-3-D-GalNAcα1-4]n. A related structure is found in E. coli O107 where Glc is replaced by a GlcNAc residue.
