Efficacy of an Actinobacillus-pleuropneumoniae bacterin against serotype-1, serotype-3, serotype-5 and serotype-9 [PDF]

open access: possibleCanadian Journal of Veterinary Research-Revue Canadienne de Recherche Veterinaire, 1994
A trial was performed in a swine research facility to ascertain the protection provided by a polyvalent Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP) bacterin containing serotypes 1, 3, 5 and 9. The test animals consisted of 60, eight-week-old, piglets, which were randomly divided into four main groups.

Haemophilus pleuropneumoniae serotyping

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1982
A total of 126 Haemophilus strains isolated from porcine pneumonia were serotyped, using the indirect fluorescent-antibody technique. Of these, 103 were successfully typed within the recognized scheme of serotypes 1 to 5. Eleven strains were antigenically similar but were different from other strains of H. pleuropneumoniae or H. parasuis. These strains

PROVISIONAL SHIGELLA SEROTYPES

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1958
The results of continued biochemical and serological studies on a number of previously described provisional Shigella serotypes are reported. On the basis of the results obtained it is suggested that provisional serotypes 58 and 2050-52 may now be added to Shigella subgroup A as Shigella dysenteriae 9 and S.

Serotyping of Haemophilus pleuropneumoniae in the Netherlands: With emphasis on heterogeneity within serotype 1 and (proposed) serotype 9

Veterinary Microbiology, 1987
Four hundred and forty-three Dutch field isolates of Haemophilus pleuropneumoniae were serotyped by rapid slide agglutination (RSA) using specific antisera against serotypes 1 to 5 and against the recently proposed types 6 to 9. The predominant serotypes were 9 (49%) and 2 (32%).

The Relevance of Pneumococcal Serotypes

Current Infectious Disease Reports, 2014
Pneumococcal disease leads to considerable mortality, morbidity and healthcare cost worldwide, and disease rates are predicted to increase due to an aging population. There are over 90 different pneumococcal serotypes identified to date, each with unique capsular characteristics capable of eliciting serotype-specific immunity in its host.
