Quantitative assessment of gait alterations and variability in sulky‐driven Standardbred trotters after a standardised exercise test

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Assessment of equine metabolic and locomotory responses to quantified levels of physical exercise is needed to support the creation of tailored protocols for optimal training adaptation. The locomotory response to exercise in horses is not fully understood.

Influence of environmental variation on Atlantic Forest tree-shrub-layer phytogeography in southeast Brazil Influência da variação ambiental sobre a fitogeografia do estrato arbóreo-arbustivo da Mata Atlântica em dois estados do sudeste brasileiro

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2010
This work assessed data from 32 forest sites in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil, using multivariate analysis to answer the question: Are there floristic patterns of the Atlantic Forest tree-shrub layer related to the Serra do Mar and the width of ...

The effect of full‐limb flexion tests on static and dynamic muscle activity and locomotion asymmetry in owner‐sound horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Flexion tests are commonly used in equine locomotion examinations to identify underlying locomotor issues, yet their neuromuscular effects remain poorly understood. Response variability raises concerns about their clinical value in lameness assessments and pre‐purchase evaluations.

Feeding ecology of hummingbirds in the Serra do Mar, southeastern Brazil

open access: yesEl Hornero, 1986
The feeding behaviour of hummingbirds was studied in November and December 1983 at Boracéia, an area of very humid forest in the Serra do Mar, SE Brazil at 800-900 m. Six species of hummingbirds were present in the area, and were recorded taking nectar from 25 native plant species, of which 15 or 16 were considered to be hummingbird-adapted.

Integrative taxonomy reveals four new species of the armoured catfish genus Pareiorhina (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the upper Paraná River basin, Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Four new species of the small‐sized armoured catfish genus Pareiorhina are described from mountain ranges in the Grande River drainage, upper Paraná River basin, based on morphological and molecular species delimitation methods. Molecular analyses based on the cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) marker recovered Pareiorhina as polyphyletic ...

A new catfish species of Microcambeva Costa & Bockmann, 1994 (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae) from southern Brazil, with a redescription of M. ribeirae Costa, Lima & Bizerril, 2004

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Among the few species of Microcambeva reported as occurring in more than one hydrographic basin, M. ribeirae has been previously listed from both the Ribeira de Iguape and the Guaraqueçaba basins. However, morphological and molecular analyses revealed that the specimens from Guaraqueçaba represent a new species, which is described in this ...
