Fish Sperm Subpopulations Detection, Separation, and Application: Current State and Trends
Modern advances in sperm biology highlight the necessity of recognising intra‐ejaculate heterogeneity as a central concept for advancing both the fundamental understanding of fertilisation processes and the development of artificial reproduction techniques in fishes. ABSTRACT Sperm subpopulations represent a fundamental manifestation of intra‐ejaculate

Echoes of Evolution in Holocentridae: Harmony Between Phylogeny, Morphology and Acoustics
Using phylogenetic, morphological, and acoustic data from 53 species, we reconstructed the evolution of acoustic communication in nocturnal reef fishes of the family Holocentridae. Our results reveal two major clades with distinct sound‐producing morphologies and acoustic features, and suggest a three‐step diversification process involving the ...

Albendazole, levamisole and ivermectin are effective against monogeneans of Colossoma macropomum (Pisces: Serrasalmidae) [PDF]
AbstractThis study evaluated the efficacy of albendazole, ivermectin, levamisole, mebendazole and praziquantel on monogeneans of Colossoma macropomum, based on in vitro and in vivo assays. In vitro assays indicated that albendazole (500, 100, 1,500 and 2,000 mg/L), ivermectin (200, 250, 300 and 350 mg/L) and levamisole (50, 75, 100 and 125 mg/L) were ...

Abstract Freshwater fishes from the northwestern Colombian Andes are reported from the Pliocene Sincelejo and Ware formations. A total of 10 taxa have been identified, involving two orders, five families and nine genera. Characters from dental morphology, fin spines and cranial bones are provided as taxonomic tools for the study of fossil fishes.

A new large species of Myloplus (Characiformes, Serrasalmidae) from the Rio Madeira basin, Brazil [PDF]
Myloplus zorroi sp. n. is described from the Rio Madeira Basin in Amazonia. The new species had been treated as an undescribed Tometes species because of the absence of a marked abdominal keel and few small spines forming its prepelvic serrae, features commonly found in the species of the Myleus clade of the Serrasalmidae (species of genera Myleus ...

Abstract Pygocentrus nattereri is a widely distributed species in the Neotropical region and a potential bio-indicator. Kidneys have functions in fish physiology, allowing them to live in different environments. We aimed to compare the histological characteristics of caudal kidneys between males and females, associating them with the renosomatic index (
