An 800 MHz monolithic GaAs HBT serrodyne modulator

Proceedings of 1994 IEEE GaAs IC Symposium, 1995
An 800 MHz monolithic mixed-signal serrodyne modulator IC has been developed in GaAs/AlGaAs HBT HI/sup 2/L process optimized for digital applications. This 3/spl times/2.8 mm, 2000+ transistor chip consists of a 7-bit phase accumulator driving a vector modulator, implemented as of a pair of balanced mixers, 5-bit switched-attenuators, buffer amplifiers,

Resonator fiber optic gyro using digital serrodyne modulation

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1996
A closed-loop operation of Resonator Fiber Optic Gyro, using digital serrodyne modulation for feedback to the input lightwave frequency, is proposed. Performances of this system under open-loop and closed-loop operation are experimentally demonstrated.

Serrodyne Frequency Translation Using Stepped Modulation Waveforms

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1974
This correspondence considers the use of a stepped phase shifter as an approximation to continuous phase shifting for serrodyne frequency translation. Variations in translation loss and suppression of undesirable components as a function of the number of steps used is presented.

A wideband monolithic five-bit serrodyne modulator

11th Annual Gallium Arsenide Integrated Circuit (GaAs IC) Symposium, 2003
An analysis and results of a serrodyne modulator, composed of a monolithic five-bit phase shifter and digital control circuits, are presented. Spur suppression of a serrodyne modulator is strongly dependent upon minimizing phase error and maintaining constant amplitude across all phase states.

Theory And Experiment On Optical Phase Modulator For Serrodyne Modulation

SPIE Proceedings, 1988
Theoretical and experimental performance of guided wave serrodyne phase modulators formed through indiffusion of Ti into LiNb03 substrates is discussed. Sideband suppres-sion limitations due to the phase modulator, its driving electronics, and the light source spectral characteristics are presented with experimentally demonstrated suppressions of ...

External serrodyne modulation for the suppression of low-frequency noise in quadrature interferometry

Optics Letters, 2020
In interferometry, reaching a high signal-to-noise ratio at low frequencies can be challenging when the additive noise is nonstationary. Although this problem is typically solved by inserting a frequency shifter into one of the arms, in some cases, the interferometer cannot or should not be modified in this way.

Resonator fiber optic gyro with bipolar digital Serrodyne Modulation Scheme

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
We have proposed and studied a resonator fiber optic gyro (R-FOG) with bipolar digital serrodyne phase modulation scheme. The serrodyne modulation serves multiple functions from reducing noises caused by fiber characteristics, such as backscattering and optical Kerr effect, to achieving gyro signal processing including closed-loop operation.

Single-modulator, dual comb serrodyne spectroscopy

Optics Letters
Dual optical frequency comb spectroscopy allows for high speed, broadband measurements without any moving parts. Here, we combine differential chirp downconversion to probe large spectral bandwidths and serrodyne modulation to separate the positive and negative sidebands in a single modulator.

Coherent backscatter‐induced noise in optical fiber gyroscopes with serrodyne modulation

Electronics and Communications in Japan (Part II: Electronics), 1988
AbstractCoherent backscattered light produces considerable noise in optical fiber gyroscopes. The noise in serrodyne‐modulated optical‐fiber gyroscopes with a low‐coherence source is studied theoretically for various forms of serrodyne‐modulation functions. The noise in output signals from the lock‐in amplifier is analyzed for the closed‐loop gyroscope.

An Eight - Phase Broadband Serrodyne Modulator

MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2005
The design of a 6 to 18 GHz serrodyne modulator is described. It consists of a P-I-N diodes based all passive eight step phase shifter. The device is digitally controlled. Experimental data and a comparison with a conventional serrodyne TWT are presented.
