Single-channel system for joint unambiguous measurement of DFS and AOA based on serrodyne modulation
Applied Optics, 2023In this paper, a photonic-assisted system for simultaneous and unambiguous measurement of the Doppler frequency shift (DFS) and angle-of-arrival (AOA) using a dual-parallel dual-drive Mach–Zehnder modulator (DP-DDMZM) is proposed and investigated. The echo signals received by two receiving antennas are applied to the radio frequency ports of one sub ...

The theoretical and experimental performance of guided-wave serrodyne phase modulators formed through indiffusion of Ti and LiNbO/sub 3/ substrates is discussed. Basic serrodyne theory is reviewed and a modified model of the serrodyne modulator incorporating effects of polarization, light-source coherence, device response time, and device-related ...

Theoretical analysis of the generation of multiple wavelengths by pulsed serrodyne modulation
Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2005A technique that can expand the number of wavelengths while keeping the spacing of the wavelengths constant is in great demand for wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) optical communications. We have developed such a technique by employing a fibre loop that contains a pulsed serrodyne modulator (i.e., a serrodyne phase modulator for pulsed light ...

Double closed-loop resonator fiber optic gyro with improved digital serrodyne modulation
SPIE Proceedings, 2013A double closed-loop resonator fiber optic gyro (RFOG) with an improved digital serrodyne scheme is experimentally demonstrated. To overcome the effect of the imperfect serrodyne modulation, an improved frequency shifting module is designed and constructed on a single FPGA.

A closed-loop resonator fiber optic gyro (R-FOG) with a precisely controlled bipolar digital serrodyne phase modulation scheme is experimentally demonstrated. The serrodyne modulation scheme serves multiple functions in the R-FOG, from reducing the backscattering induced performance degradation to achieving the closed-loop operation.

Distance Measurement Using Serrodyne Modulation and Two-Photon Absorption Process in Si-APD
CLEO: 2014, 2014A laser distance measurement using two-photon absorption (TPA) process in a Si-APD is reported. A newly developed configuration introducing serrodyne modulation suppresses the coherent interference noise, enhances TPA detection sensitivity, and reduces the system components.

A novel TDM approach has been incorporated with serrodyning to shift the frequency of an arbitrary carrier up to /spl plusmn/1 MHz with highest sideband suppression ever reported. This technique also realizes endless phase modulation.

Precise signal processing schemes for resonator fiber optic gyro (R-FOG) with bipolar digital serrodyne phase modulation technique are proposed. One scheme is to suppress the noise induced by higher harmonics of the frequency used to extract the rotation signal when the bipolar digital serrodyne modulation technique is used.

Abstract This paper proposes an all-optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) multiplexer based on sawtooth wave driving LiNbO 3 phase modulators by using serrodyne optical frequency translation. This multiplexer has high integration ability. The designing concept and implementation method have been discussed.

Amplitude Variation Effects Of Phase Modulators In A Serrodyne Fiber-Optic Gyroscope
SPIE Proceedings, 1990We have investigated the amplitude variation effects in a serrodyne fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG). As the results of numerical calculation, it became clear that there are bias, scale factor error and discontinuity in regard to the linear relationship between serrodyne frequency and sagnac phase shift. And we confirmed those errors experimentally.
